How to Continue the Story After Reaching the Hub in Bonelab

Where did that story get to...

A good puzzle game knows the difference between making a puzzle difficult versus making it obtuse. The best kind of puzzle clearly presents you with the tools and information you need to solve it without holding your hand. Some of Bonelab’s puzzles can feel a bit obtuse, but if you look carefully, you’ll find they way to progress. For one example, here’s how to continue the story after reaching the Hub in Bonelab.

How to Continue the Story After Reaching the Hub in Bonelab

When you progress far enough in Bonelab’s story to reach the main Hub area, you may be momentarily confused due to the fact that the large quarantine doors can’t be opened, even if you smack the big red buttons next to them. No, it’s not a glitch; there’s a secondary locking mechanism you need to activate.

Take a walk around the room and fiddle with the various mechanisms located near the quarantine doors. As you futz with the buttons and switches, large orange ball things will appear overhead. Once the balls have been released, you need to find a way to move them around.

Walk up the ramp across from the number 6 door (Mods), and you’ll find a yellow, deactivated generator. Grab the two battery packs off the floor and stick them in their proper slots to reactivate the generator, then climb the little staircase behind you. Around the corner, you’ll see a large control console for manipulating the large crane hanging over the room.

The crane controls give you a bird’s eye view of the Hub, while the joystick in the center lets you manipulate the crane arm itself. Using the joystick, move the crane to grab one of the large orange ball things and bring it back to one of the pylons next to the control panel. Drop the ball onto the pylon, and that’ll activate that ball’s respective quarantine door.

Just walk over to the corresponding door and slap the big red button, and the door should slide right open, clearing the way for more Bonelab shenanigans.
