How to Breed Regional Variants in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Keeping the Region in the family

In Scarlet and Violet there are various Regional Variants across Paldea. As you can trade with NPCs to obtain a Pokémon from another Region from the Paldean Variants. With the HOME function becoming compatible with Scarlet and Violet soon we are likely going to see a great increase in Regional Variants coming to this game shortly. Including that of Hisuian and Alolan Variants. But what happens when you breed these Pokémon? What variant will you obtain as the egg hatches? Well due to the Paldean Region you are in, you will receive the Paldean version of the Pokémon. Therefore, this is our guide on how to keep Regional Forms through breeding in Scarlet and Violet.

How to Breed Regional Variants in Scarlet and Violet

For those looking to breed more Regional Variants of the same Pokémon, the task at hand seems harder than it should be. That is because when you breed, the Pokémon that hatches from the Egg will always be a Pokémon within the Region you are playing the game in. Therefore, in this case, all Pokémon hatched from the Egg will be a Paldean Variant as you are playing Scarlet and Violet. A prime example is obtaining a blue Wooper from the NPC in Cascarrafa. This can only be obtained here as wild Wooper in Paldea will evolve into Clodsire instead of Quagsire. For those after a Quagsire, you need to get the Johtonian Wooper via trading with an NPC with a Paldean Wooper.

When Scarlet and Violet becomes compatible with Scarlet and Violet, players will bring over their Pokemon from other Regions. With this, breeding is highly likely to obtain more Pokemon within the same Region (outside of Paldea). But by breeding, you will get a Paldean Variant of the Pokemon. Therefore, players need to use a specific breeding method to gain the Regional Variant of the Pokemon again after hatching. What you need to do is Masuda Breed.

Masuda Breed with Ditto

Masuda Breeding is done by obtaining a Ditto in the wild (disguised as other Pokémon) and then Online Trade it using the Code ‘44484448′ to obtain another Regional Ditto. You can either use ZL to pinpoint where a Ditto is hiding in the wild or save in front of the Pokemon you think may be a Ditto, quit the game and return. When you load back in, the Ditto will appear in front of you, showing its true form.

After getting a Ditto, trading it with another Region around the World, breed it with the Johtonian Wooper or whichever Pokémon of a different Region from Paldea. But before you open the Picnic to breed, give the Johtonian Wooper an Everstone.

Getting an Everstone

An Everstone can be purchased from Delibird Present Store in Mesagoza. Its pricing is 3,000 Pokemon Dollars. Place this item in the hands of the different Region Pokémon (in this example, the Johtonian Wooper). Once breeding begins, any Egg obtained will hatch the same Regional Variant as its parent. Giving the Pokémon that you are trying to breed the Everstone will guarantee obtaining the same Regional Variant as the parent. This can be used on any Regional Variant, including breeding a Galarian Meowth. Which is obtained via Salvatore in the Academy.

That is our guide on how to breed Regional Variants in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The use of Masuda Breeding combined with an Everstone will be incredibly useful once this game becomes compatible with HOME.
