In a lot of kids’ media when I was growing up, kids were often depicted as having an antagonistic relationship with their school teachers. Some teachers are awful, of course, but most of them just want to teach you stuff. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, at least, the teachers are quite friendly, and you can even become friends with them! Here’s how to befriend teachers in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.
How to Befriend Teachers in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you’ll meet the faculty members of Naranja/Uva Academy as you progress through the early story beats and attend their classes. They’re quite the colorful cast of characters, each with a passion for education in their given topics. While getting to know them and taking their classes aren’t required, if you do so, you can get yourself some nifty rewards, not to mention some entertaining dialogue.

For the majority of the teachers, all you need to do to befriend them is complete all six of their classes and both the midterm and final exams for their subject. As you complete their classes, you’ll see an exclamation point on the Academy’s travel map indicating they’re hanging around and willing to talk to you. Some of the faculty, however, have a few extra hoops you need to jump through to get close to them. Either way, when you max out a teacher’s affinity, they’ll give you a reward.
Befriending Hassel, Tyme, Salvatore, and Dendra
All four of these teachers have no special requirements to befriend them. Just complete their classes and talk to them whenever you get the opportunity. The classes these teachers head up, and the rewards they offer, are as follows:
- Hassel: Art, rewards 50 Dragon Tera Shards
- Tyme: Math, rewards 50 Rock Tera Shards
- Salvatore: Languages, rewards a Galarian Meowth
- Dendra: Battle Studies, rewards 10 Proteins
Befriending Raifort
In addition to completing her classes, the History teacher, Ms. Raifort, needs you to catch four very particular Pokemon: the secret Legendaries, the Treasures of Ruin. She’s conducting a study on the history of Paldea and wants to see all four of them, so you’ll need to unseal and catch them all and show them to her. Maxing out Raifort’s affinity rewards you with TM140, Nasty Plot.
Befriending Miriam
Miriam isn’t a teacher at the Academy, but rather its nurse. She’s trying to work up the gumption to take a qualification test to become a health teacher and needs some inspiration. All you need to do is periodically check in with her and tell her about your adventures to grow closer, maximizing her affinity after completing the Victory Road questline. Miriam will reward you with 10 Max Revives for helping her.
Befriending Saguaro
The Home Ec teacher, Mr. Saguaro, loves sweet foods and experimenting with making them. In addition to completing his classes, after you’ve had a few chats with him, he’ll ask you to procure a sample of Sweet Herba Mystica and bring it to him. You can get Herba Mysticas by completing 5-Star Raids, and if you’re lucky, it’ll be a sweet one. For bringing him this, Saguaro will reward you with a Slowpoke Cup for your picnic set.
Befriending Jacq
The Biology teacher, Mr. Jacq, is the creator of your PokeDex app, and a lover of Pokemon research besides. In addition to completing his classes, he’ll give you four different rewards for clearing milestones on your PokeDex registrations. The milestones and the rewards are as follows:
- 30 Pokemon: TM057, False Swipe
- 100 Pokemon: 20 Ultra Balls
- 200 Pokemon: 20 Quick Balls
- 400 Pokemon (Complete PokeDex): Shiny Charm
Befriending Clavell
Even the Academy’s director, Clavell, is open to a friendly chat now and then. However, getting closer to him requires you to work outside of the school, rather than within it. Specifically, you need to complete the entire Starfall Street questline, chatting with Clavell after every couple of Team Star bosses you defeat. After you finish the questline and talk to him again, he’ll reward you with a Big Nugget.
One last note: you don’t need to alternate between finishing classes and talking to the teachers to befriend them. You can just clear all of a teacher’s classes in rapid succession, then just go find them around the Academy, chatting with them over and over. There’s no time constraint here. Your teachers have all the time in the world to ensure you get the best education.
