Do you laugh in the face of danger? If so, you might find yourself seeking an enemy in Minecraft that can best be described as danger — with a capital “D.” I doubt you’ll be doing much laughing, however.
The Wild Update introduced a legion of creepy-crawlies that will have players of all ages checking under their bed for monsters. Included among them is the Warden, a blind mob that relies on an enhanced sense of smell and hearing to stalk its unsuspecting prey.
If you’ve encountered one of these nightmares, you’ve likely died … many times … but you’re also probably determined to beat this wild abomination. Here’s how to locate — and beat — the Warden.
How to Locate the Warden
If you’re lucky enough to not have encountered the Warden, be grateful. But, if you insist on spawning this anathema of evil, here’s some helpful information.
It’s important to consider that the Warden is by no means a normal mob. As such, it cannot be spawned in the same way as a normal mob. In order to spawn the Warden, you’ll first need to activate a naturally generated sculk shrieker a total of four times. It doesn’t need to be four separate shriekers; it can be the same one activated four times. All that matters is that you’re intentionally disturbing this … detestation.

Also, it’s important to note that a couple other parameters need to be fulfilled. Upon activating the sculk shriekers, ensure there isn’t already a Warden within 48 blocks, and that the light level is below 11. If all three of these qualifications are met, then it’ll be time to fight or flight.
Tips for Defeating the Warden
It’s time to conquer the Warden.
I hope you’re ready for this. If you’re not, save yourself the trauma by sufficiently preparing ahead of time. As of writing, the Warden deals the most non-explosive damage of any other mob in Minecraft. It can be helpful to bring a couple friends to the battle. Misery loves company, if I recall. But, your chances of victory are increased if one player sticks to aggro while the rest keeps their distance and delivers ranged attacks.
It’s also possible to trap the Warden. If you set up a TNT or exploding End Crystal trap, you could take the Warden out without getting your hands dirty. If you take this route, it’ll take around 12-14 TNTs, or 8-9 End Crystals to successfully exterminate this mob, so you may find it’s more trouble than it’s worth.
It’s crucial to consider — if you insist on accepting this gauntlet — that the Warden has 500 Health Points, and that it can inflict between 8 and 22.5 hearts worth of melee damage depending on your difficulty. It can also inflict between 3 and 7.5 hearts worth of ranged damage, so it’s (probably) best to keep your distance — for the most part. If you can take down a Warden, you’ll earn a sculk catalyst, in addition to x5 experience, provided they’re killed by a player or by a tamed wolf.
I wish you the absolute best in this trial. Beating the Warden isn’t impossible, but it could feel like it before you’re done. Just make sure you’re well equipped in terms of armor, weapons, and restorative items, and you’ll certainly emerge victorious … maybe, anyway.
