If there’s one lesson I think we all learned from playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, it’s that you do not mess with Guardians unless you’re absolutely ready for them. Unfortunately, when one comes running after you when you’re not ready and escape isn’t an option, as is the case early on in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, you’ll have to get a little more creative. Here’s how to Beat the Guardian in Road to the Ancient Lab in Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity.
How to Beat the Guardian in “Road to the Ancient Lab” in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
During “Road to the Ancient Lab” in Chapter 1, Link, Zelda, and Impa are being pursued by a rogue Guardian under Ganon’s control. The game will inform you that you need to flee, but you may think to yourself “it’s just one Guardian, I can take him!” You would be wrong, sire. The Guardian is not only immensely powerful and quick, its armor is far too dense for your puny low-level weaponry. Maybe if you’ve already beaten the game, but as things stand, combat is simply not an option.
Luckily, as the party realizes, the small Guardian following Link around has the ability to rouse other local Guardians from their sleep and use their beam weapons, which just so happen to be one of a Guardian’s critical weaknesses. In order to pierce the rogue Guardian’s armor, you’ll need beam attacks from three Guardian turrets.
While the Hylian soldiers keep the rogue Guardian busy in the center of the map, you’ll need to deploy your characters to the three highlighted points on your map. Take control of either Link or Impa and bring them to one of the points, while using the Command system to direct the other toward another. When you get to the highlighted point, you’ll have to clear out an outpost. When the coast is clear, head over to the Guardians to activate them. You’ll also gain control of Zelda for the first time around here, so bring her to the third point to activate the last Guardian.
When the Guardians are ready, use Zelda to bait the rogue Guardian to the highlighted point. The other Guardians will take their shots, piercing the rogue Guardian’s armor and slicing off a big chunk of its health. You’re now free to go at it with everything you’ve got, though if you’d like to expedite the process a bit, use Zelda’s strong attack to cast Cryonis right underneath it. The ice blocks will flip it over, exposing its vulnerable underside to whatever punishment you can dish out. Drain its health completely, and you’ve cleared the mission!
