How to Unlock Monk Maz Koshia in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
To unlock Monk Maz Koshia in Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, follow these steps:
- Complete the second mission in Chapter 2, “Destroy the Yiga Clan.”
- Finish the quests, The Trial of Monsters, The Trial of the Mighty Foe, and The Trial of the Stones.
- Complete The Trial of the Ancients and defeat Moz Koshia within three minutes.
After clearing the second mission of Chapter 4, “Destroy the Yiga Clan,” three quests will spawn on the map bearing the signature headwear of the Sheikah. These are the monk’s trials, and while they aren’t combat quests like the ones for the Great Fairies, they’ll more than likely still take a bit of doing on your part.
To clear the three quests, you’ll need to turn in the following materials:

- 5 Ethereal Stones
- 350 Bokoblin Trophies
- 100 Lizalfos Trophies
- 3 Wizzrobe Trophies
- 20 Moblin Trophies
The Trial of the Mighty Foe
- 10 Ethereal Stones
- 1 Stone Talus Trophy
- 3 Hinox Trophies
- 3 Lynel Trophies
The Trial of the Stones
- 7 Ethereal Stone
- 10 Ambers
- 5 Topazes
- 5 Rubies
- 2 Diamonds
You’ll probably already have everything you need for the Trial of Monsters, but expect to do some grinding for the Trial of the Mighty Foe. If you need sidequests featuring larger monsters, try “Echoing Footsteps,” “Cross the Hebra Mountains,” and “Cross the Volcano.” These’ll get you trophies for Hinoxes, Lynels, and Taluses, respectively, though you’ll probably have to do them more than once. You’ll also need to clear quests to get ethereal stones if you’re running low. As for the Trial of the Stones, use your Sheikah Sensor to sniff out quests that reward gems. If you’ve got some surplus rupees, you can buy some gems from the merchant in the Gerudo region.
Once you’ve cleared all three trials, one last mission will appear, “The Trial of the Ancients.” This is a one-on-one fight with Maz Koshia himself with three minutes on the clock. The recommended level for this fight is 38, so make sure to pack your highest level fighter (I’m guessing it’s Link), and supply them with some damage-boosting cooking. Once you knock out Maz Koshia, the ancient monk is yours to command!
