How to Beat Gym Leader Brassius in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

For a Grass-type Gym Leader, he's surprisingly tough

Once you’ve completed the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek Gym Challenge, you’ll have to face Gym Leader Brassius in battle. Grass-type Gyms have been criticized for being notoriously weak in previous Pokémon games, but that’s definitely not the case with this Grass-type Gym; Brassius may be weird (as many Pokémon Gym leaders are), but he’s a lot more skilled at Pokémon battles than you’d think. If you’re really gunning for Brassius’s Gym Badge, use this informative guide to take down Brassius in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet once and for all!

How to Beat Gym Leader Brassius in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

Once you complete the Sunflora Hide-and-Seek Gym Challenge, you’ll have to battle Gym Leader Brassius if you want that Grass Gym Badge. Thankfully, Brassius isn’t too difficult to take down, though you definitely shouldn’t underestimate him. Gym Leader Brassius will send out these three Grass-type Pokémon in battle:

  • Petilil – Female, Level 16
  • Smoliv – Female, Level 16
  • Sudowoodo – Male, Level 17 (Terastallized)

The first two Pokémon shouldn’t be too difficult to take down (especially if you chose Fuecoco as your Starter Pokémon), but you should definitely watch out for his Sudowoodo. Brassius’s Sudowoodo has a Grass Tera type, so it won’t be weak to Fighting, Steel, Ground, Grass, or Water-type moves like it normally would. Thankfully, however, this Sudowoodo’s Tera type makes it weak to the same types as Brassius’s Petilil and Smoliv.

Since Brassius has all Grass-type Pokémon, it’s recommended that you bring Bug, Flying, Poison, Fire, or Ice-type Pokémon (or Pokémon that know strong Bug, Flying, Poison, Fire, or Ice-type moves) to the battle. It’s also recommended that your Pokémon be at least between levels 15 through 20 (the higher level your Pokémon are, the better chance you have against Brassius).
