How to Beat Glumstone the Giant in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course

The bigger they are, the harder they fall.

Giants, being a staple of classic fairy tales, are also a staple of old-school cartoons. It makes sense, then, that Cuphead features no shortage of giant enemies, including the giant of the DLC, Glumstone. Here’s how to beat Glumstone the Giant in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course.

How to Beat Glumstone the Giant in Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course

Glumstone the Giant is a three-phase fight on a shifting stage layout. He’s a very large target, and you’ll want to take advantage of that by packing powerful weapons with large shots like the Spread and the Charge. A tracking weapon like Chaser or Crackshot would be helpful for the third phase as well. He’s also got a lot of helpers launching projectiles, so you’ll want to employ either Cuphead or Mugman with the Smoke Bomb Charm equipped for a safe build.

Phase 1: Beard Battle

We start things off on a handful of rocky platforms with shifting elevations, all sticking out of a mountain covered in Glumstone’s beard. All of Glumstone’s face is a target here, so start letting him have it with your weapon of choice. Be mindful of where you stand on the platforms, though, as Glumstone’s gnome minions will attack you from below. Blue ones that pop out of the ground will launch projectiles upward, while a green one will climb up the platforms and start swinging wildly with a hammer. Try not to fall off the platforms, or else the gnomes will poke you with their hats.

Glumstone has three tricks he can employ here. First, he’ll open his mouth to reveal some gnomes stirring a cauldron, letting loose gas cloud projectiles. These are pretty easy to dodge, but make sure you don’t forget about the aforementioned platform gnomes while you maneuver around them. Secondly, Glumstone will blow his nose like a whistle and summon a flock of geese. Look for a low platform and duck down while you wait for them to pass. Finally, Glumstone will dig around in his pocket and pull out a bear, which he’ll hold over the left side of the stage. This is actually advantageous to you, as the far-right platform will be almost completely safe while he’s doing this. Stand a little to the right of that platform so the gnome projectiles don’t hit you and unload on Glumstone with your strongest stuff.

Phase 2: Puppet Theater

For the second phase, the platforms will all recede into the mountain while Glumstone moves the background, pulling out a pair of hand puppets on both sides of the stage. The puppets will start throwing a ball back and forth toward each other, attempting to peg you. Meanwhile, gnomes will pop out of the ground around the stage, leaping into the air in your general direction.

This is where the Smoke Bomb really shines. The puppets aren’t that good at leading their shots; they’ll usually just aim at wherever you’re standing, so poof past the ball when it flies toward you and attack whichever hand you’re closest to. Just don’t stand too close, as the hands can hurt you on contact.

Phase 3: Call a Gastroenterologist

When the puppets are defeated, Glumstone will smash the stage and swallow you whole. You’ll end up in his stomach, standing on several skulls suspended in acid, while Glumstone attacks you from the ceiling (as, presumably, some kind of stomach ulcer). Gnomes will also pop up on the sides of the screen to launch darts at you.

Start firing on Glumstone, but keep an eye on the stuff he spits out. If he launches a chicken leg at one of the skulls, they’ll eat it and submerge into the acid, reducing your footing. Make sure you don’t jump onto a submerging skull right as it’s doing so. If Glumstone spits a bone at a skull, it’ll stick its pink tongue out. Jump over and parry the tongue to return the skull to normal, as well as make the other skulls resurface. Keep up the pressure on Glumstone as you jump from skull to skull, dodging the occasional gnome dart, and he’ll go down.

Congrats, you’ve given Glumstone severe indigestion. Swipe his Gnome Berries and go retrieve the other ingredients for the Delicious Last Course!
