How to Beat Frye in Splatoon 3 Hero Mode

That is entirely too many eels.

In the lore of Splatoon, the majority of sea creatures have each developed into humanoid surface-dwellers in their own right, but there are still plenty of feral critters lurking around. Apparently, that includes gigantic, ravenous eels, and apparently, those eels are the favorite tool of Frye. Here’s how to beat Frye in Splatoon 3 Hero Mode.

How to Beat Frye in Splatoon 3 Hero Mode

Frye is the second boss of Splatoon 3’s Hero Mode. She may be an Inkling, but she ain’t fighting you with ink. No sir, she’s taking you on with a veritable army of gigantic eels, which she apparently keeps in the gutted remains of an Octostomp. How pleasant.

When the fight begins, Frye will begin spinning her Octostomp as she launches out a gaggle of eels. These eels will float in front of you, shooting you with ink. You can shoot the solid-orange eels to make them disappear, but if you shoot the ones with black masks over their faces, they’ll fly up and hit Frye. If you shoot back all of the masked eels, Frye will be stunned, stopping the Octostomp from spinning. Quickly find a solid metal side and ink a pathway you can swim up to reach the top and splat Frye.

For the second phase, Frye will move the Octostomp to the center of the stage and begin spinning it faster. The Octostomp will begin spitting out eels, which will fly around from the Octostomp outwards in a reverse whirlpool pattern. Set yourself up diagonally from the eels, gradually moving backward as they radiate outward, and shoot them as they fly by. You want to be as close to being in front of them as possible without actually being in front of them. Again, there will be both masked and unmasked eels, but they fly too fast to really differentiate, so just shoot all of them. When the masked eels have been shot down, Frye will be stunned again, ready for another swim-and-splat.

For the final phase, Frye will launch out a large school of eels in a crowded pattern. The eels will fly directly at you, quickly turning as they pass by for another charge. If your Splashdown is charged up, this is the time to use it, specifically when they’re right in front of you. You might not get all of the eels, but you should get most of them. After that, just pick off the remaining stragglers to stun Frye again, then swim up and splat her for the last time.

With her eels defeated, Frye will retreat, leaving you to claim the first part of the mysterious mechanical gadget.
