IllFonic’s long-awaited asymmetrical online multiplayer title, Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is here, and with it comes a whole new set of cosmetics to unlock, gear to upgrade, and even additional characters to unlock and play as. That’s not even including the game’s pretty steep learning curve when getting started with it.
Though, leveling up and unlocking more great items in-game can actually be a bit of an easier feat, if you know how to do it. Today, we’ll explain how Side Hustles and the various in-game Contracts work so that you can get the ball rolling much faster.
How Side Hustles/Contracts Work in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed
Besides simply playing jobs in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed, players can expedite their level and progress by completing some side challenges that offer additional rewards and some sweet XP drops. Leveling up in Ghostbusters: Spitirts Unleashed is important because there are some in-game activities that can only be unlocked after leveling up to a specific level. Playing as a Ghost, for example, can’t be done until players reach level 3.
The very first instance of Side Hustles and Contracts comes into play following the game’s tutorial. You’ll be able to access the Side Hustles menu which is situated next to Winston in the main area of the Firehouse. This menu allows you to engage with a myriad of various ways to earn XP and rewards. You have Weekly Challenges, Daily Challenges, and Contracts.
Though there is only a single Daily and Weekly Challenge, there are plenty of Contracts to take up. All of these tasks you with doing certain things a specific amount of times while on a job. These are typically locked behind level requirements, but once unlocked can be assigned to you to complete.

There are three things you’ll need to do per Contract, and you can only have a single one assigned at a time. Swapping between them will make the progress of the previous go back to 0. These Contracts don’t expire and are there until completed, granting XP and cosmetic rewards.
Additionally, players can take on Research Contracts once they reach level 20, giving them ways to earn upgrades to the gear that they use during ghost hunts in the field. This menu is located near Ed in his upstairs office. These types of Contracts work similarly to the regular ones as well though your gear will have to be a certain level in order to do a Contract that’s specific to it.
