How Many Free Credits Can You Earn in Overwatch 2 Season 3? – Answered

Baby steps...

The upcoming season for Overwatch 2 will be its third season, and with its implementation will come a few changes intended to improve the overall experience for its player base. After quite the turbulent launch for the sequel of one of the best games to have come out of 2016, the attempt to rejuvenate the stale team-based FPS game that Activision Blizzard themselves left in the dust, its current state is a far cry from what it once was.

Hopefully things are bound to improve now with the release of Activision Blizzard’s retrospective piece on future developments on the game as it goes into season 3. Namely, the gifting of free credits for players to earn for simply playing the game.

Overwatch Credits were the in-game currency of the original Overwatch, which players could accumulate by playing the game and being rewarded Loot Boxes that may contain them as they level up. These would then go towards cosmetics and they could be put towards any quality of said item (Common-Legendary) across skins, sprays, emotes, victory poses, voice lines and highlight intros.

In Overwatch 2, these are now referred to as Legacy Credits that were unearnable and will now be referred to as Overwatch Credits. These were carried over from the player’s original Overwatch file as reimbursement that could then still be put towards the cosmetics as listed above to unlock – including the Battle Passes. The developer has noted that they intend to open up more ways of earning these Credits and implementing more possibilities in how to exchange them for goods in the game.

All players will start to be able to earn up to 1500 credits as free rewards. There will be an additional 500 credits as premium rewards across the Battle Pass of Season 3.

They will be updating the Hero Gallery as well to allow for more means of putting said credits to use. For nearly all the epic and legendary type skins that released prior to Overwatch 2, they will be available for purchase in the Hero Gallery for either Coins or Credits. These will include seasonal skins, meaning that players will not have to wait around for the same season to roll over if they missed out on the limited timed event. Legendary skins will also be priced at a lower mark, asking for 1500 Coins/Credits instead.

This is a step in the right path since all players will now be able to unlock at least one Legendary skin in each season.
