How does Progression Work in Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice?

In RPGs, and in the Souls franchise, the way you will progress your character is by spending points. This points will increase certain stats such as strength, dexterity, intelligence, etc. This will depend, in turn, on the specific class or play style that you have previously chosen. However, things in Sekiro are quite different. You are The Wolf, a master shinobi. This means that your main stats are the same, disregarding your previous Souls experiences. This, however, does not mean that you don’t get to customize your character to a level.

You see, while defeating enemies in the world, you will fill a bar. Once full, it will grant you a skill point that you will be able to spend in the Skill Tree. The thing is, in order to spend the point in a specific skill, you will need to find a special item in the world to be able to unlock it first.

This will certainly allow you to focus on an aspect of The Wolf and spend skills on trying to master it. shinobi arts, samurai arts, passive boosts and improvements to your move set. You name it, and most probably, there is a skill that will get you what you are looking for.
