How Do You Fix ‘Minecraft for Windows Incompatible with Launcher’ Error?

Minecraft not running properly? We got your back.

Though having Minecraft readily available across various gaming platforms, phones, and tablets, using various operating systems is an amazing thing, with there also being various builds/versions of the game there are bound to be issues. Unfortunately for some PC users, it appears that the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft has a bug that keeps users from even getting the game to run at all, with an error message reading “Windows incompatible with launcher”. We’ve got a guide though that should assist players in finding their specific remedy for this error.

How Do You Fix ‘Minecraft for Windows Incompatible with Launcher’ Error?

Minecraft Launcher

There are four different avenues that players can use in order to successfully get their game to start working again. Though only one of these methods may work for you, they’re all worth trying. A couple of these methods can also work with any other games you may be having a hard time with so feel free to check them all out for yourself.

Reinstall

The first, and possibly easiest method, especially for players that are not very PC savvy is to simply uninstall the game’s launcher and then reinstall it. This ensures that all of the game’s files bugged or not are removed from your PC and reintegrates them properly into the files on your hard drive.

To reinstall, all you have to do is head to the Microsoft Store on your PC (most likely already installed in your programs) and search for it using the store’s integrated search bar. Once you find it, go ahead and install it again. You will have to sign back into either your Microsoft or Mojang account once it starts, and then have the chance to reinstall the game as well.

End Task

Another easy step is to simply hold down your Ctrl+Alt+Del keys at the same time. This will prompt you to click the “Task Manager” program. Clicking that will then bring up your Task Manager, where you should be able to spot “Minecraft Launcher” from the running programs under the Processes tab.

Once you find it, go ahead and left-click it and hit “End Task”. This will kill the task, fully closing it, and allowing you to bring it back up freshly. Though this method could be done before fully reinstalling the launcher, it could really only be a temporary fix to a larger problem.

Run as Administrator

If restarting via either above methods doesn’t work, go ahead and try running it as an Administrator. To do this all you have to do is close your launcher, preferably through Task Manager. Following that, right-click on the launcher’s shortcut/icon on your desktop and select “Run as Administrator”. This process will give you all of the permissions that you’ll need in order to successfully boot the game. Just click any of the prompts it throws your way until the launcher boots.

Remove Mods

If nothing so far has worked, it could be a mod that you’ve installed for your game. Mods are used for anything from your character’s skins to the entire way that Minecraft looks to you. Though these are usually harmless, some mods could potentially cause issues with how your game runs so it’s best to uninstall some or all of them at this point.

In order to uninstall mods, just head into your Minecraft folder within your hard drive. You can search it using the search bar at the top of the folder page. Once you locate the folder with the mods, go ahead and then just delete them by right-clicking each one or the entire folder. If you’d like, feel free to make an additional folder for any mods you want to keep and just place it somewhere else within your HDD for later.

Unfortunately, if none of these remedies fixed your launcher, it may be best to contact Mojang or even Microsoft about getting it to work correctly. Luckily, most users should be able to use our guide and have a positive experience, with their game running as smooth as ever. Good luck!
