In Dwarf Fortress, you’ll be going through a lot of different minerals, rocks, gems, and materials. Your sturdy dwarves will be capable enough to get through pretty much anything you throw at them, which is why you may be surprised to see them having difficulty getting through semi molten rock. Semi molten rock is a tricky occurrence that will be revealed very deep into the earth. Can you get through semi molten rock in Dwarf Fortress?
What is semi molten rock in Dwarf Fortress?
Semi molten rock in Dwarf Fortress is a unique obstacle found at the edges of the great magma seas, found deep underground. Your dwarves will not willingly sig through this stuff, despite it not being dangerous to them. You must take great care when encountering semi molten rock, as it usually means there is a heap of magma right next to it.
Semi molten rock is not designed to be mined, it is in fact supposed to be an impervious obstacle. This is apparent through the developers, Bay 12 games, patching exploits that have allowed players to mine through it before, in the old version of the game. Clearly, we are not supposed to dig through it. But could we?

How to get past semi molten rock in Dwarf Fortress
There is currently no working exposed bug or exploit to dig through semi molten rock in Dwarf Fortress, but that won’t stop players from trying. In the past, players have used the channelling and ramp features to destroy semi molten rock, or building constructions over them and then removing them to reveal sand or soil.
You can test out the old methods but they have all been patched. Keep a keen look out for any other exploits that players uncover, or attempt to uncover them yourself!
