Does One Piece Odyssey Have Anime Spoilers? Answered

To the Winner Go the Spoilers?

Yo-Ho! Yo-Ho! It’s time for an Odyssey! One Piece Odyssey is now available, but for those who don’t watch the — admittedly lengthy — anime, will you be spoiled if you play it? It would seem we’ve been asking that question a lot lately, especially with the release of One Piece Film RED. But it’s a valid question to ask.

I mean, can anyone be expected to watch over 1,000 episodes as a prerequisite for playing a game? That doesn’t seem like a fair compromise, if you ask me. So, let’s take a dive into this quandary as we seek to answer the question: does One Piece Odyssey have anime spoilers?

Does One Piece Odyssey Have Anime Spoilers?

It’s a difficult question to answer. Like with Film RED, Odyssey is presumed to take place at a certain spot in the timeline. So, even if the events of Odyssey are largely considered to be non-canon, there may be references to past events or characters that might spoil some players who haven’t seen past the time skip.

But, one thing that’s certain at this point is that no spoilers from the Wano Country arc will be present in Odyssey. To that point, it looks like the base costumes for the Straw Hat crew are the same as what they wore in the Fishman Island arc. So, we’d recommend you at least familiarize yourself with the events of arcs leading up to Fishman Island.

That said, the game features a new mode called “World of Memories,” that seems to recap some past arcs of the One Piece story. These arcs include Alabasta (episodes 61—130), Water Seven (episodes 207—325), Marineford (episodes 385—516), and Dressrosa (episodes 579—746). If this feature is anything like past One Piece games such as Pirate Warriors 4, it’ll lightly recap each story.

In summary — it’s probably not required that you watch the entirety of One Piece to enjoy Odyssey. But, if you want to enjoy the callbacks and references, you should familiarize yourself with key events and characters. Or … you know … just watch One Piece. It’s not really that long … it’s only … 1,000+ episodes.
