Does Midnight Fight Express Have Permadeath?

Midnight Fight Express looks like a roguelike, but is it?

Humble Bundle and Jacob Dzwinel’s new combat title, Midnight Fight Club is only days from releasing to the public and with the hype comes many questions. The game’s combat takes inspiration from many fantastic games that too have a strong emphasis on precise fighting. It looks very in line with games such as the Batman Arkham series and Sifu in particular. And with it matching the latter so much, folks are wondering if it also features some kind of permadeath feature. So, does it?

Does Midnight Fight Express Have Permadeath?

If you’re assuming that Midnight Fight Express features some kind of permadeath feature, you’d be forgiven, as it closely matches the isometric design of many roguelites and roguelikes as of late. Its heavy martial arts-like, precise combat also gives the same vibes that Sifu did. Whether this is good news or bad news, the game does not have any kind of permadeath at launch.

Midnight Fight Club, though sharing many traits of the roguelike/roguelite sub-genres, isn’t a game where you have to worry about dying. It’s actually a more arcade-like type of beat ’em-up game where levels are divided into small set pieces that can be played over if failed. It makes it a bit easier for players and warrants more of a narrative progression than just one of pure player progression. That doesn’t mean that something like permadeath couldn’t make its way into the game at a later point, just not right now.
