First we should say that yes, it is possible to play Guild Wars 2 with a controller. Unfortunately, figuring out how to connect a controller might have a longer answer. In order to use a controller, players will need to install Guild Wars 2 from Steam if they haven’t already. After doing so, navigate over to the Steam settings, and then select controller in the settings. Select ‘General Controller Settings‘ and then make sure that you enable controller configuration settings for your respective controller. It’s also worth noting that players should make sure to enable ‘Use the Big Picture Overlay when using a Steam Input enable controller from the desktop’ under the ‘In-Game’ settings on Steam. That’s not all sadly, because in order to properly use a controller in Guild Wars 2, players will need to assign inputs to buttons on the controller.

If you’ve followed along and enabled Big Picture mode, players should be able to pause the game, and then go over to ‘Controller Configuration’. This is where you will be able to bind any and all inputs to your controller from the game. Additionally, if players don’t want to go through the difficulty of binding inputs yourself, they can select the ‘Browse Configs‘ option at the bottom of the controller config screen. You can see any configs that you have already made. If you haven’t made one, select community and it will show you other players configurations for your controller. Making it very easy to select any of the options, preview which controls are tied to which buttons for certain configurations, and then finally apply the bindings that you think will work best. You’ll be participating in the latest Living World season with controller in hand in no time.
