Deliver Us Mars Story and Ending Summary

With your goal set to locate Kat’s father out in Mars via the ARK, circumstances take a turn for the worst when you realise that you may be the only astronaut with peace in mind. Although Plan A was set to receive Isaac (Kat’s father) and bring him back to Earth without hostility, Plan B exists to use any means necessary to complete the mission. Including extreme force by bringing along a case filled with weapons. The ARK has created equipment with the ability to create biological life, using a Biometer. This will restore life as Kat knows it on Earth in its current state. However with its location unknown, the search is on to find it as it could save Earth from collapse.

The State of Mars

Kat sees glimpses of Isaac’s past through his conversations with William, head of the Mars mission. We are told how those that have been brought to Mars are slowly mutating with standard evolutionary adjustments. Not only this but, due to the severe lack of food and resources available, the community are feeling overworked, overwhelmed and experiencing PTSD. However, William does not see how any of this is important to the mission at hand. Inevitably, this lead to extreme changes within the community. Stockpiling food and using it to barter, making antidepressants to offer the community a way to get through the days on Mars.

The ARK and its community fell apart after a couple of years into residing on Mars. The food became rationed out, small crates meant to feed a group of people for a month. Chaos and famine was inevitable due to the mutations. The food supply ran out far quicker than what was originally anticipated and the only means of protecting people from falling apart was the feed them antidepressants instead. Isaac feels ruined and guilt-ridden with the thought of leaving Kat behind so young.

The Rebellion of Homeward

Rosa fuelled the fire towards the origins of a minority group inside the ARK called Homeward. These were people desperate to return to Earth. This desperation led to the planting of a bomb which resulted in irreparable damage to the ARKs production line. Meaning less food and resources for the community. With two groups at either side, the mission becomes blurred. William stands at one side with Outward, adamant that what he is doing is worth it in the long run. Whilst Rosa stands with Homeward, desperate to go to Earth and will do whatever they can to achieve their return home.

Isaac is forced to choose sides, choosing and dedicating his life towards Outward. Whilst he is filled with guilt of leaving his daughters behind, he puts Earth behind him, thus leaving the idea of his daughters forever behind him too. The goal of Outward is no longer about saving Earth from damnation, but to restart humanity in Mars. The community destroys itself, with the ASEs attacking Homeward. The end of the fight shows how the colonists suffocated, both Outward and Homeward. Implying that this attack was done from a third party, one that was not involved in the fight.

Rosa and William stand at either side with their speeches for and against Earth. At breaking point, shown by the hologram, Rosa initiates the first attack by altering the ASEs code to attack William and other Outward members. Their plan was to force William’s hand to take Homeward back to Earth. Rosa has reached the point of no return, ignoring the words of her friend, Isaac. It is later revealed that William was the one who took away the oxygen, suffocating both parties and ending Rosa’s leadership.

The End of Homeward and Outward

After using LABOS Antenna, your only means to get off Mars is destroyed because of William who added new authorisation code for the Antenna to only be used by him. This meant that anyone using it without authorisation would overload the Antenna, thus bringing down LABOS. The MLT is restored by Kat, allowing the disk to be fully functional. We see how Isaac destroys Williams oxygen tank, ripping out the cord, leaving him to suffocate along with the rest of the colony.

On separate sides themselves, Kat leaves Sarah to find her father on ARK Vitas. We see a flashback into her mother being taken by a Dust Storm. When Kat finds Isaac, we see there is a small community alive with him. They have survived the years through the balancing of resources, including bee farms and an abundance of oxygen to keep the community alive. Isaac reveals that he does not want to return to Earth and that the colony is thriving on Mars. Revealing that he only cares about the safety of Kat and not of Earth’s humanity. He is restarting humanity once again on Mars instead. In an instance, Kat sides with Sarah, deciding that the fate of humanity cannot be ignored.

The End of Civilization Once More

Kat heads into the ARK, ready to launch it back into space to return to Earth so that it can be used there to save the human race. However, by doing so she is singlehandedly condemning the colony to die on Mars. The scene where she speaks to her father through the glass is just like the opening of Isaac attempting to take young Kat on board, to leave Earth behind for good. Instead of Claire behind the door, this time it is Isaac. The decision has already been made however, as Kat leaves her father to go board ARK Vitas. Once more you see another powerful scene of Isaac trying to board the ARK when it was Kat who was not fast enough to get on board at the beginning of the game.

Deliver Us Mars Ending

In the last moment, Isaac choses his daughter over his life’s work. Leaving behind humanity once again, this time a civilization created by his own hands. The ARK launches into space, leaving the colony on Mars behind. Knowing that one part of humanity would be condemned forever. Isaac is chained up for his acts against Earth, knowing that he would not see Kat again. The ideas behind civilizations are discussed by Isaac, not knowing whether his actions were right or wrong. But in a way, he does not get to decide the fate of one part of humanity. To play God. But this actions are done daily by ordinary people in the daily fight for survival. Showing Imzadi having killed the colonists that boarded the ARK.

The story ends with the thought of whether or not Kat’s choice was the right one. Did she save the correct civilization? Is there a correct choice when it cannot be made by a single person? In the final transmission to Earth no response is recorded. The journey back to Earth would take 6 months to complete. After 3 attempts to communicate with Earth and hearing no response back, does this mean that Earth as we know it is over? Was all of their efforts, the playing of God to decide that the colony should die for the many on Earth proven futile?

What Does This Mean?

Isaac does not want to return to Earth. In fact, he believes that the colony is thriving on Mars and that Earth can be forgotten. With a new civilization being crafted on Mars, leaving Earth to damnation. Outward had left Earth in hopes of reinventing humanity once again. His guilt for leaving his daughters stem from the fact that he was leaving them to die on Earth. As he had no real intention to ever return to Earth with ARK Vitas. Whilst this could provide safety and reassurance for humanity on Earth, Isaac would be imprisoned for the rest of his life. The opinions of Sarah, whilst extreme were correct as she knew that Isaac had no intention to save humanity.

The dome of the ARK Vitas is providing enough oxygen to keep the colony alive and stable. By removing it the colony would die. Whilst the goal was to return Isaac, the colony and the Vitas back to Earth, Isaac does not wish to return. Choosing to sacrifice Earth in order to start a new civilization on Mars. Isaac believes that the ARK would not be used to save Earth. Instead it would go to the highest bidder and used to save only the rich. When Kat makes the choice to leave Mars, condemning the colony to die, Isaac joins his daughter to finally be with her once again. However this is the second time he was abandoned humanity. With the knowledge of the many lives saved over others you have to wonder, was Isaac right all along? Will the ARK be used for good or would humanity suffer either way?

Conclusion

The final transmission suggests that Earth is now gone and the decision to leave Mars too destroyed the last of civilization. Meaning that the final hope for humanity lies with 4 humans. Truly a message to say that when it comes down to it, our ability to play God, to decide what is right and wrong for the fate of humanity is a self-destructing force.
