Dead Island 2 Alexa Game Control Guide

Alexa: flip the bird at those Zombies. Let's get those heads rolling!

As we all know that a Zombie Apocalypse can never really happen, sometimes we wish to live the fantasy or knocking out waves of Zombies outside of the realm of Call of Duty. But whilst this may not be our real life as the closest we have had to Zombies was what happened to us when we saw the sun for the first time in a year after Lockdown, players have their highest chance of Zombie interaction in Dead Island 2, unlike anything we have seen before. In Dead Island 2, players can communicate with the Zombies via the use of Amazon Alexa. Crazy right? Whilst not all commands and inputs will work/translate into an actual dialogue line your character would say out loud, you still have a lot of options available in the game to utilize. Add more personality to your characters with the Alexa Control in Dead Island 2. This is our guide on how to use it.

How to Use Amazon Alexa Control in Dead Island 2

How to Enable Alexa Control

Firstly, players will need to link their Amazon account to Dead Island 2. As many media nowadays require you to link various accounts together, to sign in or use USPs such as Alexa in Dead Island, your Amazon must be linked to get started. The Alexa Control can be initiated within the Tutorial but if you are like me, being a player that skips Tutorials, you may have missed this new feature. But do not fret for you can enable Alexa in the Main Menu. Head to Options and into Alexa Game Control. Here you can Enable Voice Commands where you will need to link your accounts together via Amazon by inputting a code. This will link the Amazon Cloud to Dead Island 2 where you can next enable your Microphone and set the threshold to your liking.

With Alexa enabled, you will need to make sure that you have a Microphone to use of course and select this in the last Menu option on screen (Input Audio Device). You can test the volume via the Voice Capture Threshold. This is so that you can speak in game by addressing Alexa to change your voice into a dialogue line that has been coded in by Deep Silver Dambuster Studios themselves. Keep in mind however that this feature is only available on PC and Xbox, so if you have a PS4/PS5 you will not be able to use the Alexa Control in-game.

What Can You Do With Alexa Control?

Whilst not everything you say in-game will be translated to dialogue, the Alexa function mainly acts as a way to taunt the Zombies. So you can directly communicate with any enemies by luring them towards you, allowing you to take them out one-by-one rather than using either stealth or alerting them all to your location. You must speak as clearly as you can and make sure that you are within approximately 5 metres of the Zombie you are trying to taunt. Refer to the bottom-left corner of the screen to note if Alexa is working correctly.

Using commands such as ‘Hey’ can make the character wave and greet the Zombies in-game. This is just one of the commands to use to execute an emote without selecting the corresponding button. Outside of taunting and luring Zombies towards you, you can also set Waypoints or change Weapons.

How to Fix Alexa Game Control Not Working – Solutions

As this is a very new feature in Gaming, you may have trouble getting Alexa to work consistently. If you have any problems, you should double-check that Alexa is enabled via the Alexa Control section in the Main Menu. From here, you should also check that your Mic is selected via Input Audio Device and that it is working fine by talking aloud for voice capture under the Threshold option. If you cannot see these options you may need to link your Amazon Account with Dead Island 2 once more. This should appear when you enable Alexa for the first time and if you experience any problems, resetting the function and inputting the Code to link your devices should work for you.

If the Settings look perfect, always try a game Restart, this will usually sort out the problem. Of course, if this does not work, you may need to check if your PC System, Console or Game is up to its latest update. Finally, you may need to Uninstall/Reinstall Dead Island 2 where you will need to enable Alexa once again through the linking of your Amazon Account.
