In just about any post-apocalyptic setting, the bombed-out, abandoned cities are absolutely lousy with locked stuff like doors and safes. Obviously, nobody had the time to leave the keys under the welcome mat before society collapsed, so if you want at that stuff, you’re gonna have to construct the thief’s best friend: lockpicks. Here’s how to craft lockpicks in Chernobylite.
Lockpicks are one of the most important tools in Chernobylite, as they allow you to open doors and containers that are otherwise inaccessible. You definitely want to have a pocketful on hand when clearing out an area, because the alternative is trying to remember where everything is and coming back later, which is dumb and cumbersome. The problem is that, since lockpicks are so valuable, you’ll only find a precious few of them lying on the ground somewhere. They can be purchased from traders, but your funds are best utilized for more important things. No sir, when it comes to lockpicks, it’s D.I.Y. or bust.
How to Craft Lockpicks in Chernobylite
To make your own lockpicks, you’ll first need to create an Industrial Grinder in your home base. You can find it under the Crafting Tools section of Igor’s inventory. To create an Industrial Grinder, you’ll need the following parts:
- 4 Mechanical Parts
- 8 Electronic Parts
- 4 Flammable Parts
This stuff, unlike lockpicks, actually is lying around on the ground somewhere, so make sure to scavenge whatever you can while you’re out and about. Once you construct the Industrial Grinder, you can make as many lockpicks as you like, provided you have the necessary materials for them. To construct a single lockpick, you need the following:
- 2 Mechanical Parts
- 1 Chemical
Depending on the companions you have with you, you can expedite this process a bit. Tarakan’s “Saving” skill reduces the cost of materials when crafting stuff, and Mikhail’s “Capacity” skill increases how many materials you can find when scavenging.
