I’ve found that different people have different levels of tolerance for Justin Roiland’s voicework and sense of humor. I like Rick and Morty, so I can put up with it for a pretty long time, but I know for some people the shtick can get old pretty quickly. If the idea of experiencing that shtick for the entirety of a game turns you off of High on Life, there is a solution. So, can you turn off voices in High on Life?
Can You Turn Off Voices in High on Life?
The answer is yes, and very much so. I’m guessing the developers knew not everyone had the patience for endless riffing, so they added multiple dialogue settings to the game’s audio options. Using these options, you can set how frequently your various talking guns, as well as the enemies you fight, quip at you outside of plot-critical dialogue.

All you need to do to use this setting is pause the game, go to the settings menu, and switch to the audio tab. You’ll see options for Enemy Chatter and Gun Chatter, which you can toggle between three settings:
- Frequent: Guns/Enemies will talk at you regularly when there’s nothing important going on, cracking jokes, riffing on your progress, and so on.
- Occasional: Guns/Enemies will mostly stay quiet, only occasionally piping up if you’re dawdling on a mission objective or doing something silly like jumping in sludge.
- None: Guns/Enemies will only speak during story-critical moments, and will remain completely silent otherwise.
Adjusting Dialogue Frequency
If you still feel like you’re hearing too much dialogue, even with the chatter frequencies turned all the way down, you can also adjust the volume of the characters’ voices independently of the music and sound effects. That way, if you don’t want to hear any chatter whatsoever, you can mute the voices entirely while still hearing the rest of the game. Just remember to turn on the subtitles in the general settings so you don’t miss anything important.
The dialogue is one of the major draws to playing High on Life, but if for whatever reason you just can’t stomach it, you can still enjoy the game without it.
