Who is Wooly in Amanda the Adventurer?

Wooly is Amanda’s sidekick/partner in the TV Show, however his origin story is unknown. As you play through the game you will likely grow an attachment and fondness for this uneasy but kind character. In the form of a sheep but with mannerisms and characteristics of a human being, there is not much that separates Wooly from Amanda herself. He is often seen acting as Amanda’s conscience, reminding her of information she has forgotten or trying to get her to go down a different path. The question is however, is he doing this for Amanda’s benefit or for Riley (the protagonist)? It is difficult to know whether or not Wooly is the good guy in this story or not.

On the surface, Wooly appears to be entrapped in the TV Show with Amanda, but unlike other victims that you see around the Neighbourhood of chalk outlines, Wooly appears to be a recurring character in the Show. He even appears on the cover of the Amanda the Adventurer poster, however a hard-to-find secret portrays a different life for our dear Wooly. If you find the 6th Secret Tape you will see a video of Wooly sitting at the table, doing absolutely nothing but the occasional yawn and waiting for something. Whether or not this is a look into his real life outside of the Show is unknown but seeing as all of the Secret Tapes show real people and not anything from inside the Show itself, it implies that there is some kind of waiting room for the characters in the Amanda the Adventurer Show and that Wooly himself is sentient and exists outside of the recorded VHS Tapes of previous Episodes.

But what does this mean? Some believe that Wooly may be Sam Colton (Creator of Amanda the Adventurer and father to Amanda/Rebecca), however I disagree with this idea. Instead, I wonder if Wooly may have been the leading character of a past TV Show that was created by Hamln but failed in the attempt to lure children in like the Pied Piper, or could not be possessed as a vessel for the Demon that now possesses Rebecca for the creation of Amanda in the Show. Other ideas I have had are that Wooly could have been the man behind the camera who was recording Rebecca summoning ancient Demons through an incantation as a trap created by Hamln themselves. The recording abruptly cuts and we have no idea who the cameraman was but maybe it was Wooly who was then placed into the Show as punishment?

Of all the theories, we believe that Wooly was a previous attempt at possession with his Show ‘Herd of Mouth’, but it did not work so Rebecca was chosen instead as the vessel. Evidence shows that the 6th Tape is from another Show where Wooly is the star, but if this was one of the recording showings, it is to no ones surprise that Wooly did not capture the audience like Amanda did.

Can Wooly Be Saved in Amanda the Adventurer?

With all of the Endings in Amanda the Adventurer seemingly uncovered, players are wondering if there is a moment where the adored Wooly can be saved. If you look at all of the Endings in the game you will notice how the majority of them are either bad or downright awful for both the protagonist and Wooly. Of course, we should not be prioritising these characters over others as we are unsure of the fate for both Rebecca and Sam Colton but the questions regarding these characters are more of thinking about them in the past tense rather than the present. What we have in front of us when playing is trying to save Riley and if Wooly can be saved throughout the journey, this is just an added bonus.

Although we do not know specifically what or who Wooly actually is, we can see that he is another soul that needs saving. In the Gruesome Ending, Riley becomes entrapped in the Show itself, being locked inside the Meat Shop. This tells us that some real people are taken and turned into new characters for the Show but as we see throughout the Tapes the only talkable characters are Amanda and Wooly. So does that mean that Riley is a new talking character or is the Butcher another victim who has become entrapped. If so, what happened to the lured children?

Regardless of what you do in this game, Wooly cannot be saved. In fact, in the True Ending ‘The End’, Wooly is taken out of the equation all together, where Amanda appears to want to start again, perhaps with you as her co-host. For this to be the better Ending to get in the game says a lot for the fate of Wooly. Just like the Amanda the Adventurer Demos, Wooly is a subject to torture and punishment against Amanda’s immature and violent ways. But with the intriguing ‘The End?’ Ending upon finding the Secret Tapes and the possibility of a sequel, perhaps Wooly will be found once more, similar to how Rebecca is “out there somewhere”.

That was our guide on Wooly, if he can be saved and who he could be outside of the Sheep costume. We hope you enjoyed this article and Vincent’s interpretation.
