VALORANT has taken the world by storm in the few years it’s been out. Its rapidly developing Esports scene has expanded across the globe, turning it into a PC juggernaut. Those with a console, though, have been left out.

There have been rumblings of a console version of VALORANT. We’re here to translate those rumblings and let you know whether or not you can play VALORANT on PlayStation 4.

Unfortunately, it’s a hard no. Tactical FPS games like CS:GO and VALORANT are very difficult to port to console compared to an action FPS like Call of Duty. The precise nature of the game’s movement and gunplay requires a mouse and keyboard to effectively function. Remember, these games have no aim assist so playing them with a controller would be nightmarish.

On top of that, there’s no way you’re going to be able to play VALORANT on PlayStation 4 even if a console port for the game was made. The reason for this is twofold:

First, the PlayStation 4 is an outdated console. The hardware inside PS4 consoles simply cannot keep up with modern games. VALORANT isn’t the most intensive game in the world, but it is very CPU dependent. Whether or not you could play VALORANT in PlayStation 4 with a decent framerate would be in question. A PlayStation 5 may be able to run VALORANT, but that isn’t going to happen either.

The reason we likely won’t see a PS5 version of VALORANT, either, is because Xbox announced a partnership with Riot Games as a part of Summer Games Fest 2022. Riot added VALORANT to Game Pass on PC as a part of that announcement. This came with exclusive benefits like unlocking all of the playable agents immediately. It’s beyond unlikely that a studio now partnered with Xbox is going to release its new Game Pass game on the competition’s console.

All of those factors together make being able to play VALORANT on PlayStation 4 something of a pipe dream. The idea of a console version of VALORANT has always been whispered around the community. As it stands, that’s all it is – a whisper. If that changes, we’re sure you’ll hear about it.
