Previous SpongeBob Squarepants games, particularly Battle for Bikini Bottom, allowed you to play as more characters than just the yellow fellow himself. Patrick could shake the ground and throw stuff with his considerable weight, while Sandy could hog tie varmints with her lasso. Since it’s a similar game, you’re probably wondering: can you play as Patrick or Sandy in SpongeBob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake?
Can You Play as Patrick or Sandy in SpongeBob Squarepants: The Cosmic Shake? Answered
Unfortunately, the answer to that question is no. This is a strictly one-sponge adventure, with SpongeBob being the only playable character for the whole game. Rather than other playable characters, most of the gameplay changes throughout Cosmic Shake come about from the new abilities that SpongeBob gradually picks up as he goes. It’s a shame, but at least you don’t have to worry about switching characters.

You’ll still see plenty of Patrick and Sandy throughout the game. Patrick’s been turned into a balloon and is always floating around SpongeBob’s head, Navi-style, so he has regular conversations with SpongeBob and other characters. Sandy is one of the characters that needs to be rescued from a Wish World, but she also has counterparts in the other Wish Worlds that are more or less the same as her, such as Sheriff Sandy in the cowboy world.
Character Variety
While it’s not the same as completely switching characters, if you’re tired of looking at the back of SpongeBob’s head, there are a bunch of different costumes you can unlock, some with nifty cosmetic effects. It’s still SpongeBob, but maybe he’s a robot! Or a caveman! Or naked! You can still get some variety from the game with a bit of unlocking.
