Can You Name Your Dog in Remnant 2?

A man's best friend and a monster's worst nightmare

The bond between a human and a dog is special. Being one of the few sets of species pairs that can have a sense of communication and understand without speaking the same language. There is nothing quite like the relationship a human and dog have. I type this as I command one dog to sit, another I am having to take regular breaks between articles to play ball and asking the final pup to quit the yapping at the wind. The bond is truly unique but it does get a little harder to believe this the more dogs you own within a single household. When a dog acts as your partner throughout an apocalyptic setting or terrifying circumstances such as at war or against inhuman and mighty creatures, this dog becomes an integral part of both your gameplay and story. The same can be said for the Handler Archetype in Remnant 2. But can you give the dog a name? This is Vincent’s guide to answer these important lore questions.

Can you Name your Dog in the Handler Archetype?

Dogs are an integral part of video games, especially horror. From the highly underrated Haunting Ground where nothing mattered but making sure that when you transitioned into another part of the mansion, Hewie followed behind you. The only playable aspect of Call of Duty: Ghost being Riley. Saving and getting the assist from the wild dog or wolf in Resident Evil 4 (ignoring the many jumpscares of zombie dogs in the franchise). Even having The Last of Us II, where my sister took great pleasure in playing catch with Alice. Finally, being guided by the adorable puppy in Yomawari as your beacon of hope throughout. To point out, the majority of video games with dogs instore already have names that the community refer to them as. Be it names given by the Developer or what we simply associate them as.

But the Handler Archetype in Remnant 2 offers you a canine companion as an important gameplay mechanic for the Class. Not only can the dog passively heal you and allies, it can also revive, attack or defend the team based on what you need from the dog. Without any real information on the background of your companion, it is up to you to fill in the gaps. For the sake of providing a name for the dog, there is no actual system in place to name your dog. Instead, players will only be able to call for their dog out loud as they play, knowing fair well that the dog cannot react to your calls. But with the ping system, you can definitely make it feel as though your companion is reacting to your commands being followed by the name you gave them.

If you are looking for further customization options in Remnant 2, unfortunately there is no mechanic in place to rename or edit your four-legged companion. But if you are playing with friends, be sure to state the dog’s name so that when they are downed they can dramatically scream for your pups aid down the mic.

That was our quick guide on customizing the dog in the Handler Class for Remnant 2. We hope this guide provided the info you needed for this Archetype. For more on the latest video games, see all GJ guides here. Thank you for reading.
