Can You Date Multiple Characters at the Same Time in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist? – Answered

Can't decide between the cute dog-human boy or purple alien guy? Date them both!

I Was a Teenage Exocolonist allows players to take their pick of 10 potential partners, and with such a difficult choice comes with an easier time in deciding who to settle down with thanks to the game allowing players to date multiple characters at once. It won’t be smooth sailing, but here’s all you need to know when going for a full house.

Can You Date Multiple Characters at the Same Time in I Was a Teenage Exocolonist?

The short answer is yes, you can date as many of the romanceable characters as you want. A point worth knowing is that this can be a deciding factor in what ending you can get, so think ahead in which ending you are aiming for when attempting to romance more than one character. Additionally, if you are looking to get the very best ending and epilogue possible with said character, max out your friendship points with them which you can do by spending all your free time doing activities alongside them and gifting them with collectible items that are their favorite gifts. This should be preferably done as an exclusive coupling.

Also, keep in mind that flirting with anyone and everyone is a viable approach that does not come back to bite you. See where your options can go and witness all possible reactions and responses, but as we said before for a game based on so much trial and error and perfecting of runs, dating and getting your happily ever after can actually be as difficult as keeping the colony safe and sound.

Relationship dynamics between the characters and orientations

That’s because while all 10 of these characters are romanceable, specific dynamics will certainly happen in playthroughs that can make romancing particular characters difficult. Here’s a breakdown of what you should consider and prepare for:

  • If Tammy lives, she and Cal will start dating. Both characters are exclusively monogamous so you will have to forcibly break them up to start dating either one of them.
  • If you do not manage to flirt enough times with Anemone before year 16, she will take an immediate interest in Vace and the two will begin dating shortly thereafter. Both characters are exclusively monogamous so you will have to forcibly break them up in order to start dating either one of them at that point.
  • Both Marz and Tangent are romanceable but epilogues indicate that they never stay in a long lasting relationship with the player character. Note that Marz’s relationship status is not exclusive whilst Tangent is exclusive but casual and the two hook up here and there during playthroughs.
  • Likewise, Rex’s relationship orientation is polyamorous and he will not settle down with the player character in the epilogue when dating just them. Players can either stick to an open relationship with him or be with both Rex and Marz in a polyamorous relationship.
  • Nomi-Nomi is monogamous, but they have an interest in Rex and it happens to be an achievement to have them confess their feelings to him. If you’re not one for matchmaking, keep Nomi-Nomi for yourself but remember to throw their favorite gifts at them to win them over quickly and effectively since they join the game late. There is a possibility in joining this relationship to make it polyamorous.
  • Dys is monogamous whilst Sym is polygamous and who has an interest in Dys. Settling down with Sym does not result in becoming an exclusive item and it is possible to create a polygamous relationship with the two.

Conversely, if you are not aiming for the romantic angle (and likely not for the intentions of dating everyone considering some romanceable characters’ temperaments like Vace’s) you may want to focus on instead bettering the characters. No matter what your approach is intending to be with its characters, be it platonically or romantically, you can positively influence their character, growth, and arc via their own personality trait and hidden scale.

Either option does lead to different endings depending on how much effort and time you put into bonding with them. Always remember that the game requires specific tasks and goals met for the best ending you can get even when dating a character, and most of the time certain conditions will not be met. So keep playing your own matchmaker and see where your bonds and relationships take you!
