Chained Echoes employs a different leveling-up system than most RPGs. Typically, you would find enemies to defeat and grind out experience to level up. While this is still possible in order to improve skills, it’s not the main way to do so for your character. Instead, it relies on equipment to improve stats and Grimoire Shards to level your character.
Best Ways to Level Up in Chained Echoes
For skills, you can grind for SP. This is done by defeating enemies you encounter. Once you have enough SP in your skill, it will improve. Only equipped skills earn SP, though you can apply them if your character is enough to level it up.

Defeating Bosses
As you progress through the game, you will naturally get more shards. Defeating bosses gives each of your characters a shard, which you can use how you like. You can learn battle or passive skills, or just choose to increase a character’s stat. There are optional bosses as well and they also give you shards when beaten.
Reward Board
The Reward Board is by far your best option for getting shards. It has side missions, many of which are passive like “kill x amount of monsters”. As you complete these challenges and quests, you will gain rewards like items and weapons. Many reward a shard as well, which can help you when you’re trying to get a specific skill to beat a certain enemy or boss. Make sure to claim your rewards though, otherwise, you can end up with several shards just sitting there, unused.
