Best Nature for Fuecoco in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

We all just want what's best for the little guy.

When Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have three lovable starters to choose from. While Sprigatito and Quaxly each have their own merits, tons of us are drawn in by the orange dinosaur ‘mon. Albeit for his cute face, his funny nose, or his kick-butt evolutions of Crocalor and Skeledirge, there are plenty of reasons why you’d pick this goofy little guy. But there comes the age-old question of those who like competitive battling: what Nature works best with my new Pokémon partner?

Best Nature for Fuecoco in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet

It’s a slow Pokémon but a powerful one.

You might be as surprised as I was to learn that our darling Fuecoco isn’t the physical attacker I thought he was! Fuecoco, Crocalor and Skeledirge all share three stand out stats: HP, Defense and Special Attack. These are tanky Pokémon that can absolutely take a punch. Yet, you cannot expect these gators to win you a race any time soon. There are three options to pick from for a decent Nature.

  • Modest: (+Sp. Atk, -Atk) This is the Nature that I most highly recommend, because Fuecoco, Crocalor nor Skeledirge lose anything by having it. The Fuecoco line doesn’t have great Attack to begin with, so decreasing it to benefit it’s Special Attack stat is perfect for it.
  • Calm: (+Sp. Def, -Atk) With a fat 100 base Def stat in his BST, Skeledirge is enough of a physical juggernaut to consider running him as a defensive wall. To accomplish this he needs a small helping hand. With a Calm Nature, and lots of love, he can push his 76 Sp. Def stat upwards, making him an absolute tank.
  • Quiet: (+Sp. Atk, -Spd) This choice isn’t his absolute best, but it can work. The Fuecoco line aren’t so slow that they’d make for viable Trick Room users, but you can safely drop Fuecoco’s diminutive Speed stat in favor of some more Special Attack.
