Mystic Messenger

Mystic Messenger is a popular South Korean visual novel game released by Cheritz all the way back in 2016. In this game, you play as a young woman who is tricked into entering a “private” chatroom made up of one other woman and five men, all of whom are conveniently single and exceptionally attractive!

Although this chat room was meant to be private, you’ve somehow been smuggled in by an unknown third party. You and the other members of the chatroom have to team up to figure out who hacked their chatroom and why, and whether or not you’re truly the victim that you say you are.

This game is unique for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that it has an incredibly engaging story that will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time! I’d honestly play this game even if it weren’t a dating sim. Not only does this game offer seven playable routes and dozens of different endings, but it also features a lot of post-game content in the form of DLC and events, so you’ve always got new content to keep you busy with your boys (and girl)!

The Arcana

The Arcana is a romantic visual novel game that was released by Nix Hydra in 2016. In The Arcana, you play as an inexperienced apprentice to a powerful magician named Asra. You play as a young tarot reader employed at Asra’s shop, where you had previously awoken with no memory of your past or who you are!

While you’re unraveling the mystery of your past, you become employed by the Countess herself to discover who assassinated her husband, the formidable Count of Vesuvia. Who you decide to unravel these mysteries with is up to you, but beware: these mysteries are much deeper and more intertwined than they seem.

This game doesn’t allow you to customize your character (yet), but you do get to choose from he/him, she/her, and they/them pronouns at the start of the game, so it does get inclusivity points for that. The Arcana also allows you to choose from up to six different romanceable characters; each character allows you to experience a different side of the game’s engaging story. In addition to this, there are LGBTQ+ options in this game!

Crush Crush

Crush Crush is a classic idle game/dating sim that was released by Sad Panda Studios in 2016 (I guess 2016 was just a good year for dating sims). In this game, you play as an average (lonely) person who accidentally crashes into a young girl while on a bike ride.

As she is rushed to the hospital (you crashed into her pretty hard), the magical manifestation of love and romance appears before you and tells you she’s going to help you get a date with the girl you just hospitalized! Her name is Qpiddy and she’s going to help you romance just about every single girl that crosses your path; no romance is off limits as long as you’ve got your charming guardian angel by your side!

Crush Crush is an idle game mixed with a dating sim, so if you’re into idle games and are really lonely then Crush Crush is the game for you! There are dozens of romanceable girls in this game (just girls, no other romanceable genders here) and there are more being added all the time, so you’ll never get bored with the same old characters! There’s also a lot of seasonal in-game events (and an 18+ DLC) as well, so you’ll truly never run out of things to do in this game.

Blush Blush

Blush Blush is almost exactly like Crush Crush, except it has furries and boys instead of girls! Blush Blush was made by the same people who made Crush Crush, Sad Panda Studios and was released in 2019.

In Blush Blush, you play as an inexperienced zoo keeper who accidentally passes out the wrong water bottles and turns a bunch of hot, single guys into zoo animals (rookie mistake)! Only the power of love can turn them back, and since it’s your fault they turned into furries, it’s (fortunately) all up to you. No guy is un-romanceable as long as you’re on the loose in Blush Blush!

Just like Crush Crush, Blush Blush is half idle game, half dating sim. There are dozens upon dozens of fuzzy, romanceable men in this game, and more are being added frequently! There are also a lot of seasonal events (and an 18+ DLC) that are being released constantly, so you’ll never run out of things to do in Blush Blush. The premise of the game is a bit silly, but I guarantee you’ve never played a dating sim like this one before!

Shall We Date? Love Tangle

Shall We Date? Love Tangle was released in 2015 by NTT Solmare, and is part of a larger series of “Shall We Date?” games. In Shall We Date: Love Tangle, you play as a young woman who moves into a luxurious apartment in Kaleido City that rents to celebrities.

After you move in, you begin to run in an almost suspicious amount of hot, young men. As you get to know each guy better, you begin to find yourself getting sucked into an unexpected love triangle! You’ll be able to flirt with both of your love interests with no consequences, but you can only truly fall in love with one, so choose wisely!

You may think that Shall We Date? Love Tangle is just your average female-oriented otome game, and for the most part, you’d be right. However, what sets this game apart from the rest is that you can actually romance two love interests at the same time! You’ll only be able to choose one final love interest in the end, but it’s still worth playing as long as you’re cool with heteronormative monogamy. You should also definitely give this game a try if you’re a fan of any of the other “Shall We Date?” games!

Contract Demon

Contract Demon is a cute visual novel game that was created by NomnomNami in 2019. You don’t really “play” as your own character in this game, but you do progress through the story by following Kamilla, a demon. Kamilla is a demon that tries her best to be evil, but somehow always manages to fall flat whenever she’s summoned by a certain client: Eleni, an angel.

Despite their obvious differences, Kamilla and Eleni begin to form a tentative friendship with each other, and they begin to realize that they’re not actually all that different after all! Their friendship quickly evolves into something more, however. Romance between a demon and an angel isn’t very conventional, but they’ll go through Hell and back to ensure their love lasts forever (literally)!

There aren’t really “routes” in Contract Demon, because there’s only one love interest (Eleni). However, this game is definitely still worth a download! This game is a refreshing change from the hundreds of generic, copy/paste dating sims that like to clog up your recommended lists; if for nothing else, play Contract Demon for the nice change of pace.

My Candy Love

If you were a cringey teenager in the early 2010s, then you probably remember My Candy Love. My Candy Love is one of the many dating sims created by Beemov and was released in early 2011. In My Candy Love, you play as a young woman named Candy, who lives in a small city.

Since its release in 2011, this game has added many different playable versions: Highschool Life, University Life, Love Life, and Alternate Life. If it’s your first time playing the game, it’s recommended that you start with the original version of the game: Highschool Life. In My Candy Love: Highschool Life, you play as a teenage girl named Candy who has to choose between all of the hot guys at her new school, Sweet Amoris High; but how could she possibly choose between them all??

My Candy Love has been around for over a decade (which makes me feel old), but it’s still one of the best dating sims on the market! There are a lot of romance options in this game; you definitely won’t be getting bored of playing any of My Candy Love’s versions anytime soon. This game also has a lot of LGBTQ+ romance options, especially in the later versions of the game!

Dream Daddy

Dream Daddy is a hilarious dating sim that was released by the Game Grumps in 2017. In Dream Daddy, you play as a (fully customizable) single dad who has just moved to the city of Maple Bay with your college-bound daughter, Amanda.

Once you get settled into the new city, you quickly realize that your new culdesac is exclusively populated by conveniently single (except Joseph) hot dads! Since you’re (seemingly) unemployed and Amanda is too caught up with teenager stuff to notice you, you might as well mingle with fellow eligible dads. It’s up to you which hot daddy you snuggle up to during your stay at Maple Bay, but beware: not every daddy is what he seems, and romance won’t be the only thing you find in some of these routes.

This game didn’t originally release on iOS or Android, so many people may be surprised to see it on this list. This game was recently added to mobile app stores, and you can even download it for free! You can play the game for free up to a point, but once you get to the dad dating (dadting?) portion of the game, you may have to pay a small amount to access the rest of the game. Trust me though, these daddies are worth it!

LongStory

LongStory is a sweet, coming-of-age game released by Bloom Digital in 2014. This dating sim is set in a middle school, which may seem disgusting at first, but I promise that there’s nothing creepy or predatory about LongStory! In LongStory, you play as a student at Weasel Heights Middle School.

You get to play as a shy student who just moved back home, after being away in France for a whole year. Even though you’re anxious and skeptical of how your home has changed in your absence, you quickly get pulled into a puzzling mystery. As you investigate the puzzling disappearance of Em, the previous owner of your school locker, you begin to see some of your other classmates in a different light than you did before.

LongStory is an award-winning visual novel that’s dedicated to incorporating inclusivity into every aspect of its gameplay. This LGBTQ+-friendly game features love interests of many genders, though you don’t have to “date” anyone at all if you don’t want to. LongStory gives you something that no other dating sim can: a second chance at middle school (without any of the hormones or real-life consequences!). Play this game for the cute feels if for nothing else!

Obey Me! One Master to Rule Them All

If you’ve played literally any other mobile dating sim ever, you’ve definitely seen this one in your “recommended games” list. Obey Me! One Master to Rule Them All is a classic otome game similar to Shall We Date? Love Tangle in the sense that you play as an attractive young woman who has to choose between multiple sexy, eligible men.

Unlike in Shall We Date? Love Tangle, however, the men you have to choose from in this game are all demons! These surprisingly charming love interests are hot as hell (pun intended) and, conveniently enough, interested in you. It’ll be nearly impossible to choose between them all, but you’ll have to if you want to save humanity (and your love life)!

You may think that Obey Me! is exactly like every other female-targeted dating sim out there, and you’d be mostly right. However, what sets this game apart from the rest isn’t just the demon-dating, it’s the unexpectedly engaging plot (weirdly enough). Most otome games don’t put much effort into anything but the romance aspect, but Obey Me! has a weirdly engaging plot that will hook you in within the first five minutes of gameplay.
