Best Character Creation Options in Remnant 2

If you want to survive in the apocalypse you have to look cool doing it

For a Souls-like with co-op gameplay used throughout its narrative, the customization in this game is some of the best there is. This is only when comparing it to other Souls-like games or from the FromSoftware entries themselves. As Remnant 2 has the classic ARPG formula, character customization was a guarantee. If you are like me, the more options of character creation the better as I can spend more time creating than actually playing (it’s a curse really). But Remnant 2’s customization is very limited, with its focus being more on the Classes and Armor Sets you can unlock in the game rather than what your body type or face looks like. Whilst Build is important, it is not when we talk about aesthetic purposes. For this reason, this is Vincent’s take on the best character creation options in Remnant 2.

Character Customization Tips for Remnant 2

Think About What Archetype You Want First

For those that purchased the game knowing that it Remnant is a Souls-like but with guns, you may not be aware of the Archetype system in it. Acting as the Classes, players get to choose between a set of 4 base choices for Archetypes – Hunter, Challenger, Medic and Handler (with those who pre-purchased the game having a fifth choice of the Gunslinger). Each have not only their own unique Perks and Skills that you can choose to utilize in the game but they also rock their own unique look. Some are hidden by headgear that completely hides their identity, whilst others sport headwear such as cowboy or hunting hats. I bring this up as a point as whatever you decide, your work on customizing will be for nothing if you decide on being the Challenger or Medic.

Whilst you can get other Armor and gear that can replace your default appearance, a lot of the times, your player will need to be covered up to increase damage protection, resistance and buff up shields. It is not worth having a Build catered towards having your character’s face and hairstyle on show (unless you have found some secret Build worth sharing with the audience). Because of this, you may want to do your research into what each Archetype entails and base the amount of time you want to spend customizing on how you will look when your Class is picked.

Your Options for Sex Does NOT Matter

As a Non-Binary person, I will never demand the inclusion of more genders as character customization is based on choosing the biological sex…and really what does it even matter? Depending on the Archetype of your choosing, you may decide that the Class would better suit a woman more than a man and vice versa. For example, having a female cowboy would just be iconic in an apocalyptic setting or going for the I Am Legend vibe of a lone male with his loyal four-legged companion just makes sense with the Handler Archetype.

Your Voice Matters.

Aside from this very serious and inspiring header, players will want a voice that is both authoritative and powerful, regardless of gender. This is because you want to demonstrate both dominance against the bosses and command your ally’s attention by showing off your gun whenever you defeat an enemy. Your character can talk directly through the emote system in the game. For male characters avoid options III and VI, no offence to the voice actors on this one…they just don’t scream alpha male enough for me.

For the female character, going for a strong I or IV to channel an American-English tsundere (if only there were Japanese voice actors for this game).

A Slow but Steady Improvement for Diversity

When choosing face types, Remnant 2 offers Caucasian, Asian and African-American. The choices are also divided by age, with two options for each race. The varying shades of complexion is a bit extreme but I’m okay with it. The eye colors are surprisingly very realistic for a game that has you fighting bosses. At least you can have the enemy look you in your pearly blue eyes before you take the life from theirs. The hairstyles are incredibly limited but thank god there is facial hair! Characters such as Joel from TLOU can be created, more on that soon.

Best Character Creation Options

Because I am a sucker for The Last of Us I am going to try and create Joel and Ellie using the limited options of character creation in Remnant 2. Feel free to copy these to get the desired outcome. For Joel I recommend the Gunslinger or Hunter Archetype and Ellie, the Handler Archetype.

Joel from The Last of Us

  • Voice – II
  • Head – IV
  • Skin color – Option 2
  • Eye color – Option 3
  • Hair – Option 8
  • Facial Hair – Option 4
  • Hair color – Option 2
  • Markings – Option 1
  • Marking color – Option 1
  • Scars – Option 0

Ellie from The Last of Us

  • Voice – II
  • Head – I
  • Skin color – Option 3
  • Eye color – Option 2
  • Hair – Option 6
  • Hair color – Option 2
  • Markings – Option 5
  • Marking color – Option 3
  • Scars – Option 3
