All Weapons and How to Unlock in Resident Evil: Shadows of Rose

Here We Go Again ...

The time hath come to return to the village. In Resident Evil: Village’s new DLC, Shadows of Rose, we play as Rose Winters — the daughter of Ethan — as she quite literally faces her demons. It wouldn’t be a Resident Evil experience, if we didn’t have access to a variety of weapons. So, what weapons does Rose have at her disposal as she follows in her father’s footsteps through the village?

All Weapons and How to Unlock in Shadows of Rose

With Shadows of Rose being a DLC expansion, there are only two weapons to note: the PISTOL and the SHOTGUN. It makes sense, what with this being a shortened experience, but wouldn’t it have been great to have access to a grenade launcher?! Perhaps even … an unlimited ammo grenade launcher?! In any case, here’s how to secure these weapons in Shadows of Rose.

How to Get (and Upgrade) the Pistol

In the derelict Castle Dimitrescu, Rose will encounter The Duke — who is apparently a bad guy now? — who will send a plague of molded “Face Eaters” her way. Head down the stairs into the Main Hall and dodge the molded who are manifesting before you. Turn left and retreat into the hallway next to the (now, former) save room, which is blocked off. At the end of this hallway, take another left and take the stairs.

At the top of the stairs, you’ll find a locked door to your left, and, given the situation you’re in, you’d might as well proceed straight through the door ahead of you. In this room, turn right and you’ll see an open door to the outside — which, if you’ve played Village, you know isn’t necessarily a good thing. And, that’s proven to be true as, once you cross the threshold, a gate slams down ahead of you. Watch the cutscene, and on the other side of it, you’ll automatically have your first weapon, the PISTOL.

To upgrade the PISTOL, wait until after you’ve unlocked your first ability. As you make your way back to the courtyard, proceed through some familiar territory and get some practice with your ability. Head through the attic and, where the path forks, grab some gunpowder to the right, then drop down the open trapdoor to the left.

Continue down the hallway to the Atelier, and use your ability to destroy the mold core on the ceiling. You’ll be attacked by a molded who’s banging on the yellow door in this room. Kill it, then go through the door it came from. In the Waiting Room, there will be a mold core blocking a lockbox containing the High-Capacity Mag. Equip it to increase the total number of bullets you can load at once.

If you’d like to unlock the Compensator upgrade for the PISTOL, you’ll need to do some backtracking, but it needs to be after you’ve nabbed your first ability. Head back to the Entrance Hall / Hall of the Four — remember, it’s the area down the stairs from the Main Hall, where the Masked Duke was previously. Your destination is the former Save Room, where the Duke was located in your main Resident Evil Village run. In this room, instead of the jovial entrepreneur, you’ll find a briefcase with a solitary eye sigil. If you use the Monocular Key on this briefcase, you’ll find the Compensator inside.

How to Get the Shotgun

To get your hands on the SHOTGUN, wait until you’ve found the Triocular Key. From the Wine Room, go back into the Main Hall and descend the stairs. Turn around and head into the Dining Room. Use the Triocular Key to unlock the cage to your right, which contains the SHOTGUN. It doesn’t look like there’s any way to upgrade the SHOTGUN, so once you’ve found it, that’s all she wrote in terms of weapons.

Resident Evil Village: Winters’ Expansion is available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
