In Crossy Road, players control the iconic chicken — you know, from the joke — by default. But, there are a whole slew of characters that can be used to cross the road. Some of them originate from countries like the UK and Ireland while others have roots in other video games such as Pac-Man. What you might not know is that there are secret characters that can only be unlocked through oddly specific means.

Here’s how to unlock all secret characters in Crossy Road.
How to Unlock All Secret Characters in Crossy Road
It should be noted that these characters cannot be pulled from the prize machine, nor can they be purchased. It is only possible to unlock these characters by fulfilling their unique requirements.
- Ace — Collect 50 burgers as Rocky.
- Andy Sum — Score 85% of your current high score while playing as Mallard.
- Anglerfish — This one has multiple steps, all of which must be done while playing as an ocean character.
- Cross a trench.
- Go back by two logs or one lily pad.
- Jump off the side of the lily pad or log.
- Ben Weatherall — While playing as The Dark Lord, achieve at least 85% of your current high score.
- Big Fancy Pig — Play as Blue and collect five of the green and white packs.
- Best in Show — Play as any dog character, then stuff your face with food. Rinse and repeat until this one is unlocked.
- Bones — When playing as Paleontologist, collect one of each fossil type (Head, Neck, Body, Leg, Tail).
- Blinky — Pac-Man must crush you while playing as Inky, Clyde, Pac-Chicken, or Pinky.
- Cai Shen — Collect 20 red envelopes while playing as Fortune Chicken, Fire Monkey, The Three Deities, Xi, New Year’s Doll, Hot Pot, or the Chinese Monster.
- Cat Lady — Eat nine yellow fish while playing as any cat character.
- Chinese Monster — Play as the New Year’s Doll, catch up to the Chinese Monster, then start another run.
- Clown — Collect 10-15 coins while playing as The Hand.
- Clyde — Play as Pac-Man. During one power pellet session, consume at least seven ghosts.
- Coconut Water — Play as a Tourist. Collect 5 Coconut Waters in one run.
- Crab — Using any character, complete the following steps:
- In grass, sand, or snow, swipe left and right fifty times.
- Complete the run with a score of at least forty.
- Dragon Rider — Complete the Pecking Order challenge. Unlock Snow King, then play as him in at least seven runs.
- Drop Bear — Play as an Australian character. Eventually, you will encounter Drop Bear. Let it kill you.
- Gingerbread Man — Play as the Wolf, and die. Eventually, the Gingerbread Man will appear. Jump on it.
- Gifty — Play as the Festive Chicken. Charge into a Christmas Tree.
- Halfling — Play as a New Zealand character. Jump into eight small gold rings across multiple runs. NOTE: This one may take a while to complete.
- Hipster Whale — Occasionally, the Hipster Whale will appear in place of a log. Jump on it to unlock.
- Iceberg — Dunk all arctic mascots into the water.
- Inky — Score 3,000 points as Pac-Man across multiple runs.
- Leprechaun — Collect a four-leaf clover while playing as an Ireland or UK character.
- Marmalade — Play as one of the five characters added to the Piffle category and, in a single run, collect one of each of the five different items (floppy disk, donut, dice, sock, and ball).
- Matt Hall — While playing as Lucky Cat, score 85% or more than your high score.
- Merlady — Cross a river as any non-ocean character. It’s then that you should jump back two longs and fall from the end.
- Michael Boom — Crash into a rocket truck. This is a random event, so it may take some time.
- Moon Rock — Play as a character from the Space category and allow yourself to be hit by one of the rocks in the meteor flow. Do this multiple times.
- Nessie — Play as a character from the UK & Ireland category. When you are nearby a river, watch for Nessie, then jump onto her back.
- Piffle Ball — Play as one of the five characters added to the Piffle category and collect all of the items you can pick up from the ground.
- Pineapple — Play as one of the five characters added to the Piffle category and get close to an empty lane. Collide with a truck with a Pineapple on top, ending your run.
- Pinky — Play as Pac-Chicken. Collect a cherry.
- Pro Gamer — Play as a Korean character and reach a score of around 100, while also maintaining an actions-per-minute score of around 150 to 200. You can achieve this by moving left and right repeatedly while moving forward.
- Purple Bloop — Play as Grablin. Beat a character higher than level 35.
- Phone Box — Play as a character from the UK & Ireland category. Eventually, you’ll reach an open clearing. If you hear a phone ringing, follow it to reach a red telephone booth. Approach it.
- Robot Dog — Play as a character from the Space category and look for a yellow duck alien.
- Rugby Player — Play as the Squirrel. Collect four nuts, then look for a white rugby ball atop a tree. Make the ball fall by approaching the tree.
- Seal — Play as the Polar Bear. Complete all five missions and collect trash in the terrain.
- Space Walker — Play as a character from the Space category. Jump on the Hipster Whale when you see it.
- The King of All Cosmos — It’s Katamari Time! Play as the Prince of All Cosmos and collect the items to make the Katamari Ball bigger. This can be done across multiple runs.
- The Princess of All Cosmos — It’s Katamari Time! Play as the Prince of All Cosmos and collect enough items in one run.
- The Queen of All Cosmos — It’s Katamari Time! Play as the King of All Cosmos and turn enough items into rainbows. This can be done across multiple runs.
- The Totem — Play as Ida, the Crow, or the Storyteller. You’ll randomly see the Totem floating down a river. Jump onto it.
- Too Much Candy — Play as any character. Jump into the chocolate river.
- Waffles — Play as Piffle and walk up to Waffles in-game.
- Yeti — Play as a character from the Festive category and get killed by the Yeti’s snowballs.
