The idea of Chained Echoes is brilliant. An old-school RPG-inspired twist on the storied genre created by one person?? That alone is incredibly impressive, until you consider how massive in scope the game is. According to HowLongToBeat, Chained Echoes can take between 29 and 52 hours to complete based on whether you are only after the main story, or if you’re a completionist.
But, to add a third layer of interesting, there are a fair number of unlockable characters. So, let’s go through these characters and discuss how you can go about unlocking them!
All Secret Characters in Chained Echoes
Tomke
First up is the uncanny expert himself, Tomke! An amnesiac, Tomke will only have one ability when you recruit him, called Uncanny Encounter. But, this move will only be effective against enemies that are considered ‘canned,’ from which you can learn new abilities. He is unlocked by completing a sidequest called “The Food, the Chap, and the Hungry” in Act II.

Magnolia
Magnolia is a character whose abilities are based on chance. When an attack is launched, a randomized number from one to ten is selected, which determines its efficacy. You can find Magnolia by completing two sidequests: one in Act II called “Into the Maelstrom,” and in Act IV called “Falfalaran Sings the Fairy.”
Mikah
Mikah is actually Tomke’s granddaughter. Her moveset largely revolves around support buffs, and she can be recruited into the party by completing “The Food, the Chap, and the Hungry,” sidequest, as well as the sidequest called “For the Love of Food,” also in Act II.
Raphael
Of these characters, it’d seem that Raphael has more to do with the main plot than the others. So, we won’t say too much about him here. But, you can recruit him to the party by completing the sidequest called “A Will to Live,” which can be accepted in Iden.
