All Resources in Monster Roadtrip, Explained

A pocket full of dreams and a song in your heart.

A roadtrip is an extremely precarious thing. It requires a sizable investment of time, interest, and money from all involved parties, and if any of those things fall out of balance, the whole thing ends up like a less-funny version of National Lampoon’s Family Vacation. If you want your Monster Roadtrip to reach its proper conclusion, you need to watch your resources like a hawk. Here’s an explanation of the resources in Monster Roadtrip.

All Resources in Monster Roadtrip, Explained

Monster Roadtrip has six resources that you need to keep track of:

  • Hype
  • Magic
  • Mind
  • Money
  • Soul
  • Stamina

The resources in Monster Roadtrip function similarly to the social stats from the previous Monster Prom games. They’re an abstraction of both your roadtrip party’s morale and tangible things like food and money. If any of these resources drops to zero at any point of the trip, the whole thing falls apart, and in a completely different way depending on which resource was depleted.

However, you can’t just keep your resources perpetually balanced, either. To reach one of the trip’s end destinations, you need to raise one of your resources above a certain threshold. This means you need to perform a very delicate juggling act of boosting one resource while keeping the rest of them out of the red. The best way to do this is to understand what kind of event choices affect which resources and how.

Hype

You can’t have a good vacation without Hype, or else nobody would be excited about anything. Taking actions that get you and your friends excited, as well as just doing objectively cool things like, I dunno, driving a monster truck will increase your Hype. However, choosing boring, mundane options and associating with uninteresting people will lower your Hype.

Magic

Magic is what powers your car in the Monster Prom world. How? A wizard did it, that’s how. Besides powering your car, Magic is also necessary for any overtly magical choices. Summoning entities or casting spells will lower your Magic, while learning arcane wisdom and consulting with magical entities will raise it. If you’re low on Magic, make it a priority to stop by the next gas station you pass.

Mind

The open road is full of all sorts of bizarre things, some that even the monster Mind can’t comprehend. Mind is a measurement of how aware you and your friends are of your surroundings and the world at large. You can increase your Mind by learning new things and reinforcing your grasp on reality. Psychologically scarring and frightening things will lower your Mind, as will overtaxing it with things like tests or complicated puzzles.

Money

In this or any other world, Money makes things go ’round. Roadtrips ain’t free, after all. Money is one of the simplest stats, as you can gain it by working jobs or pulling scams. Inversely, Money goes bye-bye when you buy souvenirs and supplies, as well as when you need to invest in something really expensive for an event.

Soul

The tagline of the Monster Prom series may be “be your worst self,” but even a monster can’t be a complete monster 24/7. Your Soul is an abstraction of virtue, how good you feel about yourself and your situation. You can raise your Soul by doing nice things for others, while crimes, scams, and murder will lower your Soul.

Stamina

Have you ever tried to drive long-distance on an empty stomach? It’s miserable. Stamina serves as an indicator of both your physical health and your food supplies. You can gain Stamina by taking actions that get you food or drinks, while consuming food or giving it away will lower it. You’ll also lose Stamina to strenuous activities like exercise or… intimate stuff.

Keeping these qualities in mind as you make your event decisions will go a long way toward not just keeping your resources balanced, but helping you work toward your ideal destination. Or you could try draining a resource on purpose, just to see what happens. It’ll be pretty funny either way.
