How to Increase the Happiness of a Pokémon and Build their Friendship Level

Battle with the Pokémon

There are various ways to increase the happiness of your Pokémon. The free method is to regularly use your Pokémon during a manual battle. Instead of using the shared EXP function, regularly bring out the Pokémon you are trying to build the friendship level with. You will want to do a combination of various methods in order to quickly boost the happiness level of your Pokémon.

Soothe Bells

Another method to use alongside regularly battling with your Pokémon of choice is to buy Soothe Bells. These can be purchased in the Cascarrafa shop, overlooking the Asado Desert. Refer to the screenshot below for the shop location. Soothe Bells cost 5,000 Pokémon dollars. They are super helpful to use, and you only need to buy one as you are boosting your happiness and friendship level of a Pokémon. The Soothe Bell is a held item that you give to the Pokémon to carry as it is in your party. It promotes a friendly environment for the Pokémon, keeping it calm during battles and increasing its friendliness towards you.

After you have evolved the Pokémon, remove the Soothe Bell and place into the hands of another Pokémon. Repeat the process again.

Picnics

The final process you can do regularly with your Pokémon is to set up Picnic spots as you are traversing through the different provinces of Paldea. Similar to the Arceus Camp Sites, Picnics act as a break in between all the action where you can bond with the Pokémon in your party. Here you have the choice to interact with your Pokémon by playing Ball, Washing and Talking to them. Not only this but, you can make meals for your Pokémon. All of this combined with the Soothe Bell and regularly using your Pokémon will skyrocket your bond, making your Pokémon very happy.

Those are our tips to boosting your Pokémon friendship and happiness levels. Once they have reached the level required and hit the time-of-day criterion (if it is necessary), your Pokémon can be evolved. It has never been easier to make your Pokémon happy in the new Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
