All Characters in My Friendly Neighborhood

No one wants friendly

After a long forgotten television show set out to hit records once more when its studio opened its doors and began broadcasting an episode to the world. However, without a single human in place to authorize the program, who exactly switched the ‘On Air’ light on? Your job is to get in and stop the broadcast. Sounds simple right? However the task at hand is far more complex than Handyman Gordon would have liked. With crazed puppets around every corner who regularly indulge in cannibalism and can only be put down temporarily with alphabet letters…it is time to wield your weapon and put a stop to this madness once and for all. With iconic characters similar to the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise, this is Vincent’s friendship guide on all stuffed characters you can meet in My Friendly Neighborhood.

Who is the Main Character in My Friendly Neighborhood?

Unlike other horror games where the entire plot revolves around a single person, often using them as the cause to the main problem, our favorite handyman, Gordon behaves much like an everyday man on the job. Although there is no cuppa tea to hand him as he gets to work, Gordon is sent into the studio not just as a handyman but a soldier recruited to deal with this ridiculous task of fighting off deranged puppets. You could easily say that Gordon acts as the hero of the tale, putting a stop to the broadcast, the tale of My Friendly Neighborhood is not as simple as the revitalized episode of a forgotten tape. Instead, something went horribly wrong with the puppets. But it is up to you to find out the truth.

All Puppet Friends in the Neighborhood for you to Meet

Whilst there are other characters in My Friendly Neighborhood that are made of blood and flesh, this article focusses on the puppet allies and enemies you will meet inside the studio. Although allies are few and far between, you could theorize that no one truly is a threat to Gordon’s life as they run at you for hugs and need to be put down by alphabet letters. In this kid-friendly horror gone wrong, the puppets waiting for you inside are highly unique with great voice acting to match.

The Neighborhood Mascots

We will start with the literal mascot and face of My Friendly Neighborhood – Norman. Physically appearing as the most normal of the friendly bunch, Norman acts very erratic and needy. He often chases after Gordon in an attempt to play with him, where you can often hear Norman claiming that he is a friend. Whilst it appears like this idea of friendship has been pushed into him rather being a genuine thought of his, there is a good chance that his behavior is that of a lonely puppet that craves human touch. Similarly his method of attacking you is through holding and pushing you as a result of you trying to escape his grasp.

Next we have Lilianna who appears more hostile than Norman. With her iconic green Whoville-style hair and long, spindly arms to wave frantically at you, Lilianna appears much more sinister than the face of the neighborhood. She is first seen talking to herself and whilst Norman does this too, Lilianna comes across more like she has some stuffing loose in her head rather than insecure and lonely like Norman. Both characters have this creepy laugh that makes their “friendly” actions feel more harmful and dangerous.

Junebug completes the original Friendly Neighborhood trio you meet quite quickly into your adventure. Her initial reaction is to greet you with open arms and welcome you into the studio. This is much more interesting than the others as it appears more like she is both surprised to see you but happy that you are here. Instead of flailing her arms around during the chase, Junebug simply runs at you much like a salesperson trying to sell you the latest gadget for a ridiculous price. She is easier to take out with alphabet letters or the wrench, making her a lower threat than other My Friendly Neighborhood characters.

Lenard is very similar to Norman however he does not have the impressive ability to duplicate himself a dozen times over to overwhelm Handyman Gordon. With behavior and action like Norman such as flailing his arms around, practising some kind of bizarre yoga moves to then claim he’s a friend to Gordon, Lenard should be seen and treated much like Norman is throughout your tour of the neighborhood. There is also a statue version of Lenard who behaves the same.

The Neighborhood Sidekicks

The Friendly Neighborhood characters display minds that are stuck in the past. They are often seen practising lines for their show whilst moving their body like a Tube Man. But this can clearly be seen with George who appears to have taught the scientific sections in My Friendly Neighborhood programmes. George has a distinct run cycle like Junebug. He jogs at you with his arms set to his side like a marathon runner. This gives him the appearance of an authoritative figure much like an Officer or Teacher rather than an immature, crazed puppets like Norman, Lilianna and Junebug. Although his uniform pinpoints that his role on the show was the bus driver, his dialogue lines point towards a knowledge of engineering. This could mean that George was a crucial part of how My Friendly Neighborhood was able to air the show without a human present.

The Hand Puppets (Hand, Randy and Pig) are some of the easiest Friendly Neighborhood characters to deal with. This is because they are often seen coming out of the walls and can be one shot with the gun, allowing you to bypass these obstacles with ease. Unlike other hostile puppets, they watch, speak to you from afar or jump around the corridors to make them harder to hit when your alphabet bullets. Keep your distance and practise your aim on them to take them down. You will find that the Hand Puppets are on lower end on your threat meter. Just be sure you have some ammunition for them.

Gobblette is a big frog-like puppet that moves around the map much like the castle on a chess board. Being only able to run in a straight line, Gobblette is a small threat if you can get out of the way fast enough. Being trapped in a corridor with no left or right to escape to can put an end to your journey, but you will find that keeping a distance whilst having an escape will keep you safe from his gigantic mouth. Gobblette provides little dialogue aside from grunts and heavy breathing. He commits to every run he takes at you, regardless of it resulting in face full of wall.

The Neighborhood Pets

Pearl, the Big Bird of the neighborhood is a mindless puppet that behaves more like an animal than a sentient puppet. Gordon is told to keep his distance if he ever meets Pearl and for good reason for this bird only has one thing and mind at that is to consume. Seen looking for things to slam or eat, Pearl towers over the scenery as something for players to be wary of and to not engage with at all costs.

The Friendly Neighborhood characters also have Dogs. These characters act as the Zombie Dogs in the Resident Evil 2 car park. Whilst they are often seen simply barking at you unless you get too close, they can be taken out quite quickly using the gun. We recommend this weapon against the wrench so that you do not need to get too close.

The Puppet Allies in My Friendly Neighborhood

Ray is the puppet that resides in the pipes. He is aggressive only when provoked, which offers players a chance to try and redeem themselves in Ray’s eyes. He is a puppet that wants to keep to himself and is often seen fixing or creating things. But is this in his favor or to help out his fellow neighborhood puppets? Ray acts as your only other ally in the game, with his one-track mind to fix everything by smacking the problem with a wrench, there is nothing lethal about Ray unless your goal is to irritate him by trying to crawl in the pipes.

Arnold is another primarily harmless My Friendly Neighborhood character in which he just wants to teach music to his pupil. On his classic Yamah(i) piano, playing fur elise (which is also the only thing I can partially play on the piano) will allow you to use his elevator feature. With dialogue that is incredibly hard to make out, Arnold behaves like an elderly man who just cannot give up teaching some old school music.

Your only real friend in this hellhole is Ricky, a sock puppet who is confined to the pipework throughout the studio. Whilst we cannot wholeheartedly say he is a friend to Gordon, you will find that this little guy never harms you and simply wants to follow you throughout your journey. Acting similar to your sidekick in warning you of new dangers and how to get past obstacles, Ricky also attempts to stop Gordon from harming his fellow Friendly Neighborhood residents.

The Bosses of the Neighborhood

Although there is no wall of mist to pass through when you find the bosses in My Friendly Neighborhood, you may find that their entrances are just as iconic purely based on how they look. From a curtain that spits out duplicate puppets to an amalgamation of puppets that aim to take Gordon out, the bosses show how far the minds of the previously adored residents inside the neighborhood had deteriorated. Resulting in peculiar creations that were not intending to be made but rather the result of trying to bring back to friendliest show on the planet.
