How to Use Fertilizer in Palia – Gardening Guide

Take care of your crops and they'll take care of you

Looking to get rich with your farming business? The route to doing so requires a very similar process to that of real life and whilst I am no farmer, it is important to think about your plotting layout, what time to plant specific crops and how to properly care for them in the correct order. For those who are perhaps unused to playing life sims with the focus around farming, you might assume that your crops are simply placed in the ground and left to grow in direct sunlight with the daily watering to keep them thriving. However, you will quickly learn that this is not the case for the ground beneath your feet requires the green touch and should not be neglected. To prepare for the best crops ever however, you will need to use Fertilizer. But how do you use this in Palia? This is Vincent’s guide on how Fertilizer works and how to use it for to grow and feed your crops in Palia.

How Does Fertilizer Work in Palia?

For many looking for a get rich quick scheme without it being an actual con like it usually is, Palia offers ways to do so with overnight tricks to growing crops that will get you a ton of money within a single day of work. Whilst hard work pays off, many in 2023 are looking for ways to get rich fast and patience is almost non-existent in the video game world. When getting your farming career started, you will need to invest in Fertilizer which can actually provide crop buffs when used efficiently. There are a total of 6 buffs that you can get when you use Fertilizer on soil, crops and directly into the Worm Farm. These are:

  • QualityUp – Boost achieved by using standard food products with Worm Farm
  • HarvestBoost– Boost achieved by either feeding Worm Farm with Blueberry/Apple/Sweet food products or using standard food products with Glow Worm Farms
  • SpeedyGro – Boost achieved by feeding Glow Worm Farms with Blueberry/Apple/Sweet products
  • WeedBlock – Boost at Zeki’s General Store (costs x40 Gold for x20 amount)
  • HydratePro – Boost at Zeki’s General Store (costs x40 Gold for x20 amount)

For those looking for advice on the best Fertilizer to use, we highly recommend using QualityUp stacking with HarvestBoost however these boosts are dependant on the seed in which you are planting. Upon getting quality seeds or levelling up your farming skills, you will want to strictly use HarvestBoost via Glow Worm Farms. HydratePro is best for those who are not a fan of the farming sim way of life but are looking to make money off their products.

How to Get Fertilizer

Due to perhaps limiting yourself to QualityUp Fertilizer, you can actually get more via the Worm Form after unlocking Fishing in Palia. Whilst you can craft more Fertilizer, using the Worm Farm is the best and fasted method to get high quality crops for cheap. For 16 Gold you can purchase Mountain Morel via Zeki’s General Store and use this inside your Glow Worm Farms to get the best Fertilizer in the game currently which is HarvestBoost, necessary to use on your soil before the planting of your seeds. You can also get Fertilizer via the Gardening Skill Store but it requires Gardening Skill Medals.

How to Use Fertilizer – Gardening Guide

Although trial, error and experimentation is best suited to those playing Palia for the first time, it is appropriate to either start your journey with QualityUp or skip straight to the good stuff with HarvestBoost. This negates the use of harvest boost crops and is relatively cheap to purchase for those just getting started. When planting your crops, you will want to select which patch of dirt you want to fertilize. Unlike the removal of crops which cannot be done, Fertilizer can be removed so long as there are no seeds placed into the patch. You can stack up to 99 Fertilizer into the patch of your choosing and remove if you decide that you do not want the boost it is offering before you plant the crop.

To use Fertilizer, select the Fertilizer you wish to use via your hotkeys (1-8). Simple hit the hotkey the Fertilizer is assigned to and stand over your crops. You will see a white outline on each patch to indicate that you are hovering over it for selection. When you are looking at the square you wish to fertilize, hit left-click. This will place the Fertilizer down. Upon doing so, you can then place down the crop you want to grow. The reason you will need stacked Fertilizer in one patch is that after every in-game day passes, x1 Fertilizer will be used by the crop you are growing. Therefore, you will want to leave this stacked up so that your crops get enough needed to grow so that they are ready for harvest.
