Fans of MOBAs/BRs should look to try this game out sooner rather than later

Having enough players to populate an online battle royale is commensurate to the games success. With the 2.5D free-to-play Eternal Return (ER), the game will live or die based on the current playerbase. Because let’s face it – no one wants to play a BR against only bots. The game aims to mix two popular game genres for players to sink their teeth into. And having left early access in July of 2023, players who have waited for the full release are curious as to how the game’s population if faring. Due to the nature of these live-service games, if the playerbase starts to falter the devs may have to move on to the next project. Leaving many who want to try the game out to wonder: what’s the player count for Eternal Return?

Currently, Eternal Return v1.0 is available only for Steam, with plans of releasing on Android and Xbox in the future. Sadly, this means that as of now if you don’t have a PC you won’t be able to play ER. It’s still unclear if the game will bring cross-play to gamers once it launches on other platforms. Whatever the case may be, as of writing this article, we’re going to take a look at the Steam player numbers, and what this means for the game going forward.

Taking a look at Steam Charts, a website utilizing the Steam API to calculate playerbases in hour intervals, we can surmise the current state of the game. As of writing this article, the game currently has an all-time peak of 50,288 players. This was accomplished in December of 2020 after the games early access launch. Meanwhile, the game has had a 24 hour peak of 20,452 players following the game’s 1.0 launch. This may seem like a dip in players compared to its all-time peak, however Eternal Return seems to performing fairly well. It’s unclear if these numbers will continue to grow or stagnate throughout the end of 2023. But if you’re a fan of MOBA’s and battle royales, you might wanna give Eternal Return a try sooner rather than later.
