How to Play with Friends in Exoprimal

Cross-platform friends might be in for a dino disaster with Exoprimal.

While there has been a fair amount of marketing for Exoprimal, it’s not shocking if you haven’t heard of the game before. As it has flown under the radar in the US despite said marketing attempts, the game aims to capture the attention of people looking to eliminate as many dinosaurs as possible. Developed by Capcom, the game is already attempting to become their next Monster Hunter. Along with collaborations already announced from other Capcom titles, the game teams you up with 4 other players as you attempt to save the world against these ferocious beasts. Because of this, players have been searching to try and figure out how to play with friends in Exoprimal.

If you’ve played Destiny 2 before, the main mode of Exoprimal might remind you of the game mode Crucible. Called “Dino Survival”, players are set up in a PvEvP environment where they compete to complete objectives the fastest. This mode supports 2 teams of 5 players, and can be played with friends. Sadly though, it seems that Capcom made inviting friends in Exoprimal a bit confusing for gamers. In the game, teams are called “Buddies” and players are able to invite friends who are on the same platform to their team of Buddies. If you’re on Steam, this is done by pressing Shift+Tab, navigating to your friends list, and inviting people. Invites on PlayStation and Xbox can be done in a similar manner, through their respective friends list menu.

However, it seems that if you are wanting to play with friends cross-platform, you’re out of luck. While the game does technically support cross-play, it’s only available during matchmaking. This means that you can encounter other players around the world on different platforms, but cannot invite them to your Buddies team. Capcom has stated they are looking into adding cross-platform parties potentially in a future update. From their posts about this topic, it seems that players shouldn’t hold their breath when it comes to this feature. This might be added in the near future to help further bolster their player numbers and longevity. But given Capcom’s other online multiplayer games, cross-play parties might not be in the cards for Exoprimal.
