Zekrom Weaknesses and Counters in Pokémon GO

Zekrom Weaknesses and Counters in Pokémon GO

As a member of Unova’s Tao Trio, Zekrom represents the concept of yin. Depending on who you ask, that can mean a lot of things, but as far as Zekrom is concerned, it mostly means things like darkness and negativity, which is why Zekrom has a slightly more intimidating appearance than its counterpart Reshiram. It’s definitely a legendary Pokémon not to be trifled with, but if you’ve got the guts and the strategy, you can bend even yin itself to your will. Here are Zekrom’s weaknesses and counters in Pokémon GO.

Both Reshiram and Zekrom are currently appearing in Legendary Raids in Pokémon GO, and will continue to do so until December 16th. If you’re having trouble tracking a Legendary Raid down, there will be special Raid Hours on December 8th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM on December 8th, so it should be easier to find one then.

Zekrom is a Dragon/Electric type, which means its resistances break down like this:

  • Weak against: Ground, Ice, Dragon, Fairy
  • Resistant to: Flying, Steel, Fire, Water, Grass
  • Double resistant to: Electric

Zekrom is packing the following moves in its kit:

Quick Moves

  • Dragon Breath (Dragon)
  • Charge Beam (Electric)

Main Moves

  • Flash Cannon (Steel)
  • Wild Charge (Electric)
  • Outrage (Dragon)
  • Crunch (Dark)

Zekrom Weaknesses and Counters in Pokémon GO

Depending on how sure of yourself you’re feeling, you could try to go at Zekrom with a strong Dragon type like Dragonite or Salamence. These Pokémon have naturally high DPS and can exploit Zekrom’s Dragon typing with their own Dragon moves. Remember, though, this goes both ways; Zekrom’s got plenty of strong Dragon moves of its own, which means your Dragon Pokémon won’t last long on the field.

A safer pick would be an Ice type like Galarian Darmanitan, our old friend Mammoswine, or possibly the best option, Alolan Ninetails. Alolan Ninetails, being an Ice/Fairy type, can pummel Zekrom with either Ice or Fairy moves, while its partial Fairy typing will defend it from Zekrom’s Dragon and Dark moves. The only thing you’d have to watch out for is Flash Cannon, as both Ice and Fairy types are weak against Steel moves.
