How to get Spiritomb in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

How to get Spiritomb in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

The process for getting Spiritomb was a bit different in the older games, which may be confusing some players in BDSP. Also, contrary to popular belief pre-release, Spiritomb is not a postgame Pokemon, and you can technically get it when you reach the Hallowed Tower. In this guide, we’ll show you how to get Spiritomb in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, including where to find the Hallowed Tower and get the Odd Keystone.

In older games, you could go into the Underground, speak with someone, go back up, and repeat the process a bunch of times. For one, there’s no way to talk to players at the moment of writing. Also, there’s the added requirement that you speak with unique characters.

How to get Spiritomb in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

To get Spiritomb in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, you need to speak to 32 unique NPCs in the Grand Underground and use an Odd Keystone on the Hallowed Tower.

Speaking with 32 NPCs is not too terribly difficult, but it may be time-consuming. You can complete this offline by talking to NPCs in the Grand Underground. Each NPC only counts once, so write down their names if you plan to keep track of which ones you already checked off the list. Continue exploring the entire Underground until you speak with 32. NPCs can randomly spawn in different locations, which means you can re-enter different segments for new spawns, and some good spots are under Oreburgh City and the sides of Sunlit Cavern.

After speaking with all 32 unique NPCs, you can visit the Hallowed Tower and spawn the Spiritomb encounter.

Odd Keystone

You will also need the Odd Keystone. One Odd Keystone is at Route 208 (west of Hearthome City), and one is in the water to the left in Twinleaf Town if you use Surf. You can also dig these up throughout the game.

Hallowed Tower

Travel to Solaceon Town and make your way south along the dirt road. Continue south into Route 209, and you will eventually see a broken crumbling pile of stone on your right. If you use the Odd Keystone on this, it will restore the Hallowed Tower.

Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl Hallowed Tower

This location is where you can check your progress to see a rough estimate of your quest progress, or, in other words, how close you are to getting Spiritomb. For example, if you have only spoken to 0 to 7 NPCs, the Hallowed Tower will say, “It appears to have been built many years ago.” Here’s the complete breakdown:

  • 0-7 NPCs: It appears to have been built many years ago.
  • 8-14 NPCs: Its stones appear to have shifted.
  • 15-21 NPCs: Is that crying coming from inside the tower.
  • 22-28 NPCs: Is the tower shaking ever so slightly.
  • 29-31 NPCs: There is some sort of presence… it appears ready to emerge!
  • 32+ NPCs: Yulaaah!

As we mentioned above, though, you can write down which NPCs you encountered in a notepad to help keep track, as well! For more helpful related guides, check out our website’s Pokemon BDSP section!
