What is a Rune of Holding in New World

What is a Rune of Holding in New World?

In New World, your encumbrance level or inventory space is of utmost importance. It affects the overall amount of materials you can hold and haul back to the settlements. The more you can hold, the longer you can stay out grinding those levels. Luckily, some dedicated bag slots on your character allow you to increase your overall inventory space. One such item is the Rune of Holding. This guide will explain what the Rune of Holding is in New World, all the tiers, and what it’s used to make.

What is a Rune of Holding in New World?

The Rune of Holding is an item available for purchase from the Faction Shop in exchange for Faction Tokens. Each faction (Syndicate, Covenant, Marauders) has Runes of Holding for sale, and they are a requirement if you are looking to make some bags at the Outfitting Station.

There are four tiers of the Rune of Holding item in New World:

  • Minor Rune of Holding – 1,500 Faction Tokens
  • Major Rune of Holding – 3,000 Faction Tokens
  • Greater Rune of Holding – 5,000 Faction Tokens
  • Grand Rune of Holding – 7,000 Faction Tokens

Each type of Rune of Holding is used in a different bag recipe from the Outfitting Station. Here are the four tiers of bags or satchel’s you can craft in New World using the Rune of Holding:

  • Coarse Leather Bag
  • Rugged Leather Bag
  • Layered Leather Bag
  • Infused Leather Bag

Coarse Leather Bag

The Coarse Leather Bag requires the Minor Rune of Holding, which is available at the Faction Level 1 Shop. It requires the following materials to make at the Outfitting Station:

  • Tier 2 Leather x45
  • Cloth x25
  • Metals x10
  • Minor Rune of Holding
  • Optional Special Resource and Azoth
  • Outfitting Station Tier 2
  • Armoring Skill Lv. 0

  • Major Rune of Holding

Layered Leather Bag

The Layered Leather Bag requires the Greater Rune of Holding, which is available at the Faction Level 3 Shop. It requires the following materials to make at the Outfitting Station:

  • Tier 4 Leather x45
  • Cloth x25
  • Metals x10
  • Greater Rune of Holding
  • Optional Special Resource and Azoth
  • Outfitting Station Tier 4
  • Armoring Skill Lv. 100

Infused Leather Bag

The Infused Leather Bag requires the Greater Rune of Holding, which is available at the Faction Level 4 Shop. It requires the following materials to make at the Outfitting Station:

  • Tier 5 Leather x45
  • Cloth x25
  • Metals x10
  • Grand Rune of Holding
  • Optional Special Resource and Azoth
  • Outfitting Station Tier 5
  • Armoring Skill Lv. 150

As you can see above, you can begin making the first tier of bags the moment you join your faction and accumulate 1,500 Faction Tokens. The runes are arguably one of the most important items sold at the Faction Shop, so make sure you save up for one if you want to increase your bag space.

You unlock an additional bag slot at Level 30 and Level 45, so you can always keep your previous tier of bag handy and use it again when you reach the corresponding levels. You can also use some Azoth in each craft to add some nice perks to each bag you craft!
