The existence of the Epic Games Store has occasionally made shopping for PC games a little more confusing than it needs to be. While there’s nothing wrong with a little friendly competition, the timed exclusivity of some games to the EGS can cause a bit of a disconnect within the public consciousness, to the point that some people aren’t quite sure when a game is coming out even after it already has. One such example of this snafu is Mortal Shell. So, when does Mortal Shell release?
To clarify, Mortal Shell has been out on the Epic Games Store since August 18th, 2020. Because it was secured as a timed exclusive to the EGS, though, only EGS users have been playing it and in the know about it. The game has had a page on Steam this whole time, but due to that exclusivity deal, its Steam release date was kept vague. Turns out, though, that they’re going decisively to-the-letter about that one-year timed exclusivity.
When does Mortal Shell release on Steam?
The devs recently revealed on the Steam page that Mortal Shell will be available on the platform on August 18th, 2021, precisely one year after the EGS release.
The addition to the release of the full base game, the Steam version of Mortal Shell will also include the new Virtuous Cycle expansion. While this expansion is intended to be a paid add-on, as a little thank you for everyone who stuck it out while waiting for the Steam release, the devs announced that the Virtuous Cycle expansion will be free to claim for five days following the game’s release on the 18th. As long as you claim the DLC before next Monday, it’ll be yours to keep, no strings attached. After that, the DLC will cost $7.99.
