How to Fix Jedi: Survivor Slow Unpacking Error

A feared Jedi before starting the game

Jedi: Survivor has arrived and with most brand new games, players are bound to experience launch day bugs, glitches and errors. This is the standard of Video Games and one that many PC players will dread for the day that a game that they have been dying to play finally arrives. Regardless of using a physical or digital copy, all Video Games nowadays require a download and if you are a PlayStation player like myself, the download time is fast but the copying time is incomprehensible. However, those on PC will be ready and raring to go with their fast speed download times, just to have Jedi: Survivor fail to launch. For those that are experiencing the Slow Unpacking Error, this guide will show you the solutions to combat this.

How to Fix Slow Unpacking Error

The Slow Unpacking Error seems to only be a problem for PC players. It happens when Jedi: Survivor finishes downloading and in that moment of euphoria when you hit Start or Execute, the game fails to launch. This is a proper mood killer but clearly Vader is hesitating to see you play as the Jedi: Survivor that you are. So if you see this Error, it is no biggie, here are our solutions to beating the first challenge in Jedi: Survivor – The Unpacking Error.

Make Sure you Have Enough Space to Download

This Error is appearing for PC players who have pre-loaded Jedi: Survivor on Steam. So this primarily is an issue for consumer who purchased the game in its pre-ordered state where Jedi: Survivor is downloaded before the game’s full release. If you get this Error, make sure that you have enough space in your Hard Drive to run the game. As this was downloaded before launch, you may find that you do not have enough space to launch the game. You need at least 150GB to handle Jedi: Survivor which is similar to that of the storage required for Call of Duty games.

Turn Disk Write Caching OFF

If you have the space for Jedi: Survivor however, your next option is to turn Disk Write Caching OFF. You need to head into your Device Manager, scroll to the Drive you are using and go into its Properties via right-clicking on the Drive. From here, select the Enable button to untick it and hit ‘OK’, that way you have disabled Disk Writing Caching. This can specifically help if the download speed is going too slow to make an impact actually installing Jedi: Survivor.

Adjust Steam Settings

Alternatively, pausing the Download and then restarting Steam if you are a user can help get the downloading process moving again. You can also set Steam to Priority High via Details Tab on Task Manager by right-clicking on the Steam App. If this does not work, make sure that you are only using Steam during the game’s installation time. You do not want to have anything running in the background that could mess with the time it takes to install the game’s 150GB file.
