In this turn-based RPG, players will need to do whatever they can to gain the upper hand in a fight. To do so, utilizing the Technique at the prime moment will give you an advantage for every fight that you take. Never neglect this Skill in Honkai: Star Rail so that you do not end up being Ambushed by enemies or losing your first turn. Depending on the type of character you are playing as: Offensive, Defensive or Supportive, your Technique will aid you in many fights, especially if you are taking on enemies back-to-back. This is our guide on how to use your Technique in Honkai: Star Rail.
What is Technique in Honkai: Star Rail?
In Honkai: Star Rail character’s abilities are divided into 5 categories: Basic Attack, Skill, Talent, Technique and Ultimate. All of these abilities are used throughout the battle and act as the Base Stats that can be upgraded based on the Light Cones equipped and the effects offered by combining Materials. The majority of the 5 Skills are used during a fight, but the same is not said for the Technique. Techniques offer an individual or team boost before a fight initiates. Depending on the Light Cone you have equipped for your character will determine the Technique that you can use before a battle.

As Techniques are used outside of battle, but should primarily be used right before you enter a fight, you are capable of using a Technique Move wherever you are on the open world. These allow you to either ambush enemies by using an Attacking Technique, or to boost your Defences and Attack right before you enter a fight so that you will get boosted damage/defence for a Turn. When an Ambush is successful against an enemy, Weakness will appear on the screen to show that you get to move first in the turn-based combat.
How to Use Technique
To use Technique inside the open world, you will want to refer to the Pad Icon in the lower-right hand side of the screen. For those playing on PC, your Technique can be used via ‘E’, ‘Triangle’ on PlayStation and ‘Y’ if you are using an Xbox Controller. Regardless of whether you are temporarily boosting Stats, increasing Heal for your party or performing an attack, this can all be used on the top Pad Icon. When you shift through your 4 party members, the Technique Icon will change to account for their Light Cone Skills.
