Wild Hearts is a game centred around slaughtering giant animals with nothing but the will to survive. So it may come as a surprise to you when you stumble across the small kemono, and are given the option to ‘pet’ them. Will you put aside your bloodlust to pet them, or will the rewards not be worth it? Should you pet or slay the small kemono in Wild Hearts?
Is petting or slaying better in Wild Hearts?
Across your travels in Wild Hearts you will be stumbling across small kemono. These are mostly harmless animals that will be roaming or grazing. You could slaughter them, or you could – if you sneak close enough – pet them. Such a duality of choices, each with different rewards.
When you slay a small kemono, you will receive loot that correlate with the act of butchering and processing the animal. So cubed meat, carapaces, scales and skins are all up for grabs when you decide to slay a small kemono. Slaying can be from simply attacking the creature, or sneaking up to it and triggering it instead of petting it.

When you pet a small kemono, however, you will receive different loot, alongside the fuzzy feeling you get from the act. More like artefacts of the creature that you pluck from them during petting. Antlers, buds, crystals, shells and even beards can all be gained from petting the various animals across the lands.
So, the answer of which is better, slaying or petting, directly depends on your needs at the time. Naturally, it will also depend on your sadistic or gentle nature. There isn’t an objective choice, it is all need-based.
