Can you Attack Students in Hogwarts Legacy? Morality Explained

Will type of wizard will you be?

With Hogwarts Legacy’s initial release of February 10th, 2023, players are already exploring the Harry Potter universe in its entirety. With that comes the curiosity on just how far you can go with executing spells in the NPCs in the game. For those looking to appease their curiosity, this short guide will explain whether Hogwarts Legacy has a Morality System and if you can attack your fellow students within the school grounds.

Can you Attack Students?

With the ability to learn unforgiveable curses: Imperio, Crucio and Avada Kedavra, you may assume that these can be used against anyone and everyone. However, imagine the repercussions to using these against fellow students of Hogwarts. For that reason, Avalanche Software have made it so that you cannot use any attacks against other students. Whilst many may have wanted a GTA inspired gameplay of taking out whoever you please, whenever you fancy. This is not the case in Hogwarts Legacy. You will only be able to use spells on enemies you face throughout the Quests in the game.

Is Morality Measured in Hogwarts Legacy?

Unlike other AAA games such as Mass Effect, Dragon Age and Dishonored, the Morality System is not part of Hogwarts Legacy. A Morality System is used to measure the protagonist’s sense of humility when it came to making decision and executing actions. Everything you did would be recorded to determine whether you were acting good or evil during your playthrough. However, in Hogwarts Legacy, there is no system to record your behavior. That is because there are no actions you can take that are inherently evil to execute. Whilst you can use the unforgiveable curses after you obtain them, including Avada Kedavra. Doing so will have no repercussions, nor will you transform into an evil wizard.

So when taking into account that you cannot attack any students and in combat will only fight true enemies against Hogwarts, it is no surprise that there is no Morality System in place for Hogwarts Legacy.
