Avalanche Studios’ new Harry Potter video game, Hogwarts Legacy, has already won over the hearts of many in the video game world. Although it is completely unconnected to the original series that was its inspiration, and taking place in an era before the events of the original Harry Potter books—the 1800s—this fantasy game is heavily influenced by the world J.K. Rowling built. The developers of this game were allowed a lot of creative freedom because of this, and they created a completely original storyline that ties in to the world of Harry Potter. Without a doubt, the game’s creators deserve a ton of praise for adding their unique touches to the game.
However, in addition to adding their own ideas into the Wizarding World, many spells and some ghosts were brought over from the Harry Potter series. Among these include the spell Protego, which is critical to defense in combat as it forms a shield between the caster and their opponent. Therefore, numerous players have been left wondering how to unlock this spell, and thus we have created a guide to explain the steps needed to obtain it.

Learning to Cast Protego in Hogwarts Legacy
Protego, the shield-making defensive spell that blocks most magical attacks, can be learnt relatively quickly in the game. The first quest in Hogwarts Legacy, the Path to Hogwarts actually allows players to learn this spell along the journey. Other spells included in this quest are Lumos, Revelio and Stupefy, all essential for every witch and wizard to know.
As you complete the quest known as the Path to Hogwarts, you will slowly learn one spell after another. Then, as you reach a statue by casting Revelio, prepare to cast Protego. Soon enough, you will need to press Triangle/Y (for console players) to protect yourself against its attacks. You must defend against three attacks at least to complete this objective, and all using Protego. After this encounter, you will have learned how to cast Protego! Congratulations, and happy wizarding or bewitching!
