Masuda Breeding is a specific method of breeding in Pokémon which allows for players to increase their chances of obtaining a Shiny Pokémon through Egg hatches. There are Pokémon in the game such as Tera Raid Charizard and Cinderace, alongside the three Starter Pokémon, which you cannot find in Paldea. This is when the Masuda Method is perfect. It means that you can use it to find Shiny Pokémon a lot easier. By increase the original Shiny Odds of 1/4096 to 1/683. This is our guide on how to use the triple Masuda Method in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to get Shiny Pokémon from Eggs.
How to Masuda Breed with One Ditto
To use the Masuda Method, players are required to either find a Pokémon of the opposite sex that belongs in the same Egg Group or to use a Ditto. For triple Masuda Breeding, Ditto is the best technique to use as you can breed with multiple Pokémon simply by using a wild Ditto. What is crucial to executing this method is that you have to find yourself a Ditto from another region. This will not work if you use a Ditto that you personally caught in the game. This is our step-by-step guide to use the Masuda Method with a single Ditto and breed with 3 Pokémon in your party.
Step One
Step one is to find yourself a Ditto. The best place you can obtain this Pokémon is in West Province (Area Two) and near the Lighthouse of Porto Marinada. Keep in mind that this Pokémon disguises itself as another. You will not be able to tell the difference between its Pokémon it is pretending to be and its original form from afar. So what you need to do is get close to these Pokémon and use the ZL button to zoom in. This will tell you the Pokémon name. If it is Ditto, its name will appear above the Pokémon and you can attempt to catch it.
Step Two
Step two is to trade the Ditto you catch via the Poke Trading Portal. The specific Link Code to use here is 448448. This is used purely to trade Ditto across regions. For the Masuda Method of breeding three Pokémon, you only need to trade this Pokémon once to gain a different regional Ditto. However, should you want to use the 3 partner method, you need to trade 3 different Ditto to get another region Pokémon for the Masuda Method.
Step Three
Step three is to make sure that the Pokémon you are trying to breed for Shiny Pokémon are all the same sex. This is so that you do not need to worry about the Egg Groups of these Pokémon. You can skip this step if you use Pokémon that are all the same sex. As Ditto is genderless you only need to focus on having the Pokémon you are trying to breed with as the same sex so that they do not breed with each other. This is only the case for Pokémon within the same Egg Group. The goal is for all three Pokémon to breed with the Ditto in the Picnic function only.
Step Four
Buy or create Egg boosting sandwiches. You can use one of the recipes listed below to give yourself an Level 2 boosting sandwich. Or, alternatively, buy the Compote du Fils at the restaurant Gastronomie en Famille. Its price is 2,800 Pokémon Dollars. The effect of this sandwich lasts for 30 minutes each time. These sandwiches increase the amount of Eggs that can be collected from the Basket at the Picnic table.
- Ultra Peanut Butter Sandwich – Banana, Peanut Butter, Butter & Jam
- Great Peanut Butter Sandwich – Banana, Peanut Butter & Butter
- Ultra Pickle Sandwich – Pickle, Watercress, Basil & Oil
- Great Marmalade Sandwich – Cheese, Marmalade & Butter
- Ultra Marmalade Sandwich – Cheese, Marmalade, Butter & Cream Cheese
- Great Sweet Sandwich – Banana, Apple, Cheese, Basil, Whipped Cream, Butter & Salt
Step Five
Step five is to put the Ditto and the three Pokémon you are trying to breed into your active party. Your party should only have these four Pokémon in it. Then open the Picnic feature at any part of the wild. Your Pokémon will release and the Masuda Method will begin. Keep checking the Basket every minute, picking up any Eggs. The boosting sandwich should help you massively with this process. The Basket can fill to a total of 10 Eggs at a time so be sure to empty it before it gets to that point. Keep collecting these Eggs for approximately 15-20 minutes, utilizing the boosting sandwich.
Step Six
Once you have collected all of the Eggs from the Basket, exit out of Picnic and head into your Pokémon Boxes. Here you will see the Eggs that you have collected. You will not know which Pokémon is going to hatch. What you need to do here is move out the Ditto and the three Pokémon into your Boxes and move 5 Eggs into your active party. A crucial step is to put a Pokémon with the ability of ‘Flame Body‘ as the group leader. This will fast-track the hatching process. Finally, hatch the eggs to see whether you have obtained a Shiny Pokémon.
Masuda Method with Three Ditto
The steps on Masuda Breeding with three Ditto and three Pokémon is the same. The only real difference is that you are adding another two Ditto to partner up with the three Pokémon in the party. Now, you have the choice to add a Destiny Knot as the hold item for each Ditto, this will mean that they are guaranteed to mate with the Pokémon in your party. However, you do not need to do this if you have Pokémon who are all the same sex. If you have a mix of sex across your three Pokémon and you are worried about Egg Groups, use the Destiny Knot on your Ditto so that they only mate with Ditto.
Complete the Masuda Method through following the steps above. The reason we recommend this method more than using a single Ditto is that there is a greater increase of Eggs appearing in your Picnic Basket. Than if you were using just a single Ditto mating with three Pokémon. By placing them in three pairs, you will be able to collect far more Eggs from the Picnic Basket. Using this method alongside the Egg boosting sandwich will triple the amount of Eggs you would be getting from using one Ditto with three Pokémon.
Where to Get Destiny Knot
Destiny Knot is purchasable at Delibird Presents Shop for 20,000 Pokémon Dollars. It is only available after defeating a total of 4 Gym Leaders and gaining the corresponding badges. This is an essential item for those breeding with three pairs. Using Ditto on Pokémon that are varying sexes and the same Egg Groups. If the Pokémon you are breeding are the same sex and not in the same Egg Group, you do not need to worry about using a Destiny Knot with Ditto.
This specific form of the Masuda Method to find Shiny Pokémon can be a longer process than others. But as you will not know what Pokémon is hatching per Egg, it makes for a more exciting and fun experience.
