How to Level Up Skinning Specialization in World of Warcraft Dragonflight: Skinning Specializations Guide

If you have to do it, do it right.

Skinning as a concept is a bit gruesome, obviously, but let no one say there isn’t a degree of artistry to it. It takes a trained, steady hand to carefully skin a critter to ensure the pelt is whole and unbroken. It’s a valuable skill to have in the wild, more so if you specialize in it. Here’s a guide to Skinning Specializations in World of Warcraft Dragonflight, including how to level it up.

The vanilla Skinning skill allows you to, well, skin things. Whenever you kill wild critters in the wild, be they mammal or reptile, your Skinning skill allows you to harvest their remains for valuable items like leather, hide, and scales. These items, in turn, can be crafted into a variety of useful odds and ends with skills like Leatherworking or sold for a tidy profit.

Like other skills, though, Skinning has several specialization trees you can follow to refine its abilities further in particular directions. The specializations for the Skinning skill are as follows:

  • Refiner: Abilities that increase the number of items you get from Skinning and allow you to improve their quality
  • Crafter: Abilities that allow you to craft Fishing Lures, gather other materials like meat from killed critters, and precisely target materials from certain species
  • Hunter: Abilities that allow you to craft bait for specific targets and infuse them with elements

Before you can open up any of your Skinning specializations, your Skinning profession needs to be at least level 25. This isn’t a particularly tall order, as leveling up your base Skinning skill is just a matter of using it every chance you get. You’ll unlock a specialization of your choice at level 25, followed by another at 50, and the last one at 100. The order is up to you, so pick whichever specialization sounds most appealing to you.

To actually level up your specializations, you’ll need Knowledge Points, a special kind of currency specific to your profession. You can’t just skin stuff to get Skinning Knowledge Points; you need to complete specific quests and objectives or work with trainers. When you complete these tasks, you’ll receive Skinning Knowledge Points the same way you’d receive money. You can spend your Skinning Knowledge Points on the Skinning specialization tree to unlock abilities in your preferred specialization. Think carefully before you pick an ability, though, because Knowledge Points are nonrefundable.

Skinning and its specializations are valuable tools to have, providing crafting materials, a source of income, and a variety of other benefits. Just keep your eyes open while you do the deed, lest you cut your thumb off.
